One step closer
Well, today I sent my insurance paperwork to the Dr's office...so I guess I am officially one step closer...I have met with the office staff, had psyc eval, diagnostic testing etc...Now I must wait for the ins company to tell me what I still have yet to do...If anyone has any suggestions about dealing with the ins co I would be most greatful! Or if you dont have ins info, words of encouragement would be just as nice...I am soooooo nervous about all of this, but i am sooooo ready to lose this weight...I want to be able to tie my shoes without nearly passing out from oxygen deprivation if you know what I mean!!!

Congrats on moving forward! If I have any insurance advice it would this simple statement:
DON'T GIVE UP!!!!!
Stay on them for everything. Be nice, but firm, and never give up! Remember this, insurance companies are in the business of making money, not spending it!
This will happen, so hang in there! Our thoughts and prayers are with you for a speedy approval!
Hi Christy, about 80% of the insurance companies will approve of the surgery. What type do you have? Did you talk to them prior to see if there was any exclusions or what they require to be approved? You may receive a denial at first, as Scott says DON'T GIVE UP call them and find out what their requirements are to be approved. Most will have you do a 3-6 month Dr. supervised diet and monthly weigh-ins with your PCP. I will keep you in my prayers that all will go smoothly for you and that you are approved the first time of applying.
May God travel with you on this new journey.
Kathy

I have Humana PPO for HCA employees...I was trying to prepare for the possibility for the supervised diet so I started that in October or November with my PCP ...but he has been following this since March and so documented in my support letter...Dr Morton's office thinks I have everything I need...I sure hope so...Not that a few more months will kill me but I am so ready ...I just hope for a smoothe approval process...I'll post as soon as I find something out!
Hey there Chrissy, if you are like me this will be one of the hardess wait's that you will do. I agree with what Scott said, just don't give up whatever you do. I see that you have Dr. Morton, are going to be at the suppor meeting on 01/10? Me and DH will be there, just let me know. Would love to meet ya. You are normal to be nervous, scared, excited, and other emotions as well, just wait till you get that approval phone call. Then you will have the wait till your surgery date. But, just keep posting on here, we have all been in your shoes wether they are tied or not.......LOL. Keep your chin up and it will happen for you, we are here for you.
Cheryl
Thanks Cheryl...by the way love the new picture...I am not sure of the meeting you are talking about? I guess since I haven't actually met with the Doc (just the staff..love them by the way) I haven't officially be entered into "THE LOOP" yet...I look forward to meeting you as well...I guess when things are officially underway I'll know more about the meetings...I have been told that Dr. Morton is wonderful...What is your opinion on that?

I am a few months ahead of you. I started this group, did all my testing, had all my visits and my insurance was approved in 2.5 weeks. However, I had a small problem with my stress test, but was given the green light today from my cardiologist. I have my first appointment with Dr Weaver on 2/21/08 to hopefully get a surgery date.
I have been practicing like my nutritionist stated, as if I had the surgery already. I have been drinking 1 protein shake for breakfast and during the other meals, I imagine what I would have to do about my portion of food. That has been a big eye opener. Have also been watching my triggers to see what gets me into my "food stuff." That is a technique I started to monitor what is going on with me (at the request of the behavioral support group psychologist.) Have even been to Salvation Army (for my first visit) attempting to get use to what it might be like to look at smaller sizes. Alot of feelings are coming up but I have been taking them to supportive people.
I guess what I am saying, is like others....just keep putting one foot in front of the other, and I am hearting the date will come sooner then we thought.
Great to have another losser to be onboard.
