Random thoughts while deciding between "Chicken or Beef Broth"

Hello all!  It seems I have survived the eerily surreal depths of RNY surgery!  I am on day 5 post op, and I feel better each day.  Mind you I still get tired very quickly and need to sop and put things into perspective.  I realize I just had major surgery and it will be awhile before I turn into Superman again.  But that time will come!  My plan is to take things one day at a time, of course:

Sip, sip, sip, and walk, walk, walk!

Fluids and protein are not a problem, though I am only getting in the minimum daily.  Friday and Saturday both I ended up with 69 grams of protein and 82 oz. of fluids.  So, I guess that is a good start.  My biggest decision with the clear liquid diet is whether to have chicken or beef broth?  So, any of you experts out there have any ideas for the clear liquid stage, I would be very appreciative!

When I went in the hospital, I weighed in at 298.9 (at home).  I came home on Friday and weighed 294.5.  Shelia has said I might be one of the few that actually lose weight in the hospital.  I think this was due to the adhesions that were cut away.  It seems the fear I had after my sister’s surgery came true.  When Dr. Dyer went in, he found an extreme amount of adhesions, and spent the following 2.5 hours cutting them free.  As for where they came from…who knows?  So, because of all the extra cutting that went on, I actually lost weight while in the hospital.  O yeah, its Sunday morn, and I weigh 285.6!  Scary if you ask me!

The hospital was not as bad as I had anticipated.  I think the biggest problem in the hospital was the boredom.  Yes, there were times I was in pain!  Especially on Thursday!  But I survived, and like I said, “Getting stronger every day!”  I really want to Thank all those who made it to the hospital to see me, and also those that were unable.  I knew I was in your prayers and thoughts!.  And a real big Thank You for the “Losers Bench”.  That was an unexpected gift.  I even carried it a step further and had almost everyone who visited sign it when they visited!  The only one I missed was DocWill’s wife.  It was after she left, that we came up with the idea!  Don’t worry Will, the idea of your gift will be passed on, just as you passed this one to me!

Well, I am home and it’s taken me a little while to write this post.  In other words, “I’m getting tired!”  I have placed a picture of the Losers Bench below.  I hope each and everyone of you have a very Merry CHRISTmas, and you each get all you’ve asked for.  I’ve already received mine and am working toward 2008 as the year of the NEW ME!!!!!

I owe one more BIG THANK YOU to some one special...my wife!  She has made these days seem bearable.  From the "OMG, why did I do this?"  to  helping me decide between beef or chicken brioth!  I Love You!  Oh My! Have a great day!  Elf

Scott,           I am so glad to see you post, I was worried about you yesterday when I did not see you but after talking to Beth, I knew you were doing fine.  I am so glad that things are going well to you and it is funny that you actually lost weight when you came home, I am really glad that this is one time I was RIGHT!!!!  At least it was an upside to having the adhesions removed!!  LOL The bench looks so pretty in front of the Christmas tree and absolutly adorable with Mr. and Mrs Clause in your signature line!! Merry Christmas to all of you as well!! Shelia PS        You are right, you have a wonderful wife!!!!!!!!

Hey Scott,         I just thought about this, but Swansons has a vegetable broth, a chicken broth with garlic, an a beef broth with onion, that might be a good twist on the clear liquids! for the holidays, a little chicken with garlic broth and a side of vegetable broth!!  Stay positive LOSER!!! Just a thought,  Shelia

Good afternoon to all, in the  middle of watching the game, just a few short lines. Glad to see that things are better for ya, Scott. How sweet is the little bench with Mr. & Mrs. Santa on it.  Sounds as though you are taking it one step at a time. Bless you and your family. I know that Beth and RJ's is just what the Doc. has ordered . And is the best of all medicine. Sending prayers and Blessing to your family and to Melissa's family during your times of recovery. Hugs and Luv to all and have a wonderful Christmas Barb

aww, that is the sweetest loser's bunch I have ever seen!!

I'm glad to hear things are getting better each day. You know, I never touched the broth. I had everything else..protein drinks, jello, popsicles, and lots of water. Good luck deciding which flavor to go with! :-)

Keep doing what you're doing... you'll be 100% in no time! Take care of yourself!

Merry Christmas!
