My dh and I go riding around on Christmas eve and enjoy the lights.  If you have kids, take a thermos of hot chocolate and enjoy. I know gas is higher this year, but it still is a pretty reasonable night out.   darlene

I have been where you are now and learning to enjoy eachother, and maybe hand making gifts cards ways to say I love you.  Have you signed up in your community for your children to recieve gifts that you are unable to afford right now later you can always return the favor when you have the money or a toy to give. prayers and hugs your way Annrenee

I agree with the drive to enjoy the Christmas lights. A few years ago I bought some of those 3-D type glasses at Party City. When you look at miniature lights through them, they have different greetings or designs around the lights. I got several different pairs and we swap them around in the car as we drive. How about a Christmas eve hors d'oeuvres party while watching a seasonal movie. Finger foods are just fun and can be a fun family time putting together too. Any leftovers we have get added to the Christmas day smorgasbord.

Hi Melissa. I am with everyone else. Drive around to look at lights. How far do you live from Nashville? We usually try to walk around Opryland Hotel and see al lthe light and decorations and water shows. It is really pretty this time of year and free.  You can also make a nice breakfast and dinner on Christmas and enjoy that. You can also make cookies or fudge. That always gets you in the Christmas mood. Are there any kids in your family? You could always turn on some christmas music and everyone enjoy singing and having a great time. My niece just turned 8 so we always try to play all kind of board games with her.  Wishing you a Merry Christmas!

These are awesome ideas. Thanks everyone. We don't have children and we are not in that bad of a financial crunch, as a matter of fact we were able to sponsor a foster child this year. I was just wanting some new ideas and maybe hear some of your old traditions. Some of the things I do that costs little to no money are usually some of the best Christmas memories I have. Every year I make gingerbread men ornaments and get my neices and nephew to decorate their own. This has created many wonderful memories. I would love to find other things to do with them as well.  Thanks for all of your responses! Melissa
