Cooking Quandries

Ok, I know a couple of weeks ago I asked for help with recipies to cook for the bf...the problem I'm running into is he is a meat and potato, pizza kind of guy.  He doesn't like many veggies, doesn't like too strange of things, and his palet is not as sophisticated as mine.  Any ideas what I can cook for the bf and how do I incorporate my new healthy lifestyle into our dinners? Does anyone else have these issues with their significant other or family members? Thanks! -Alyssa P.S. He's meeting the parents next weekend!!

The men in my life really like meatloaf,  chilli, and soups, I have made meatloaf with ground chicken or ground turkey, they do not seem to notice the difference, actually my son requested it with the ground chicken one day.  I have also made my chilli with ground turkey and they really like it as well.  I have a taco chicken soup, that is like a vegetable chicken soup, but for seasoning, I use taco seasoning and they both really like it as well.  I can send you my recipes if you like. Yes, Sheila! Pass them along.  I just don't understand anyone who doesn't like veggies, but then again...I'm not much of a fruit person.  Thanks so much!

What about a roast? Can you tolerate that? I don't eat pork so I cook a beef roast but the pork might be more tender. I had a good receipe for it where you mix 1/2 cup of A1 steak sauce with a package of Onion Soup mix and some water (I think 1/2 cup too) and then pour that over the roast (that you flavor with pepper, lowrys, garlic ..etc) and potatoes and carrots around it.  Cover with foil and let it cook on 350 for about 2 hours. Really good and tender and flavorful if he likes A1.  You could also make him steak with baked potatoes and a salad. That way, you can eat part of a steak (if you can tolerate steak) and a salad.  I also make bar-b-que chicken (did I give you the recipe already?). I put boneless, skinless chicken breast in the crockpot. Mix together a bottle of bar-b-que sauce (Low sugar preferred) with 1/3 cup of itilian dressing and 1/4 cup of worscestershire sauce. Put that on the chicken and let it cook on low for about 6-8 hours. About an hour before serving, go and shred the chicken really good so it can soak up the meat and be more like bar-b-que You can serve that with baked beans and coleslaw (and buns for him). That is pretty good. If I get/make a pizza for my husband, I just make my own to go with it. Broil me a low carb tortilla until crispy and then top with low fat/low sugar spaghetti sauce, low fat cheese, and turkey pepperoni and put back in the oven until hot. That way, I am not the odd one out by not eating pizza.  I will have to think of other things. Chili was a good idea.

Hi Sandy. I think at one time Susan was putting together a packet of recipes. She had asked for everyone to send their favorite recipes to her. I am not sure if she ever made something and gave it out. We might could ask her if she has something like that put togehter but I like the idea.  Like Alyssa, I feel bad about cooking "healthy" food for my husband who could care less about vegetables. So, a lot of the time, I improvise and add in something I can eat with his stuff or I try to make his meals healthy without him knowing it but using low fat items. But I have been trying to cook more and getting a bunch of recipes from the internet. I also have a Gastric Bypass cook book that this guy on this  site was selling. It has a lot in it too.

I haven't done the cookbook because I never got any replies to my request for recipes. I'm still open to doing the book if folks will send their recipes. I promise that everyone will get credit for the recipe(s) they submit. I would like to have sections for each eating stage we go through; liquid, puree, soft, regular and maintenance.

we need to do something the number of people having this surgery is going through the roof, and we can give some to charity or start one to raise awareness on obesity, so many people are ashamed they won't talk about it ,but if the information is out there then they can get informed without being embarrassed! i don't think one person should get rich off this we need to help each other so many need help.

We hadn't even thought of this being a cookbook that would be sold. My plan is/was to compile recipes to share with others in our support group and new ops. It could certainly be done as a more formal cookbook if we got enough recipes and the proceeds could go to whatever we chose.  My family has done a cookbook in the past through one of those companies that will compile a book for you like what churches and school groups do. I can tell you, for our family cookbook, nobody got rich. LOL I think my aunt broke even with what it cost to print the minimum number of books and selling them to the family at $12 per book.
