Fretting...again!

Ok, I have come to terms with possible complications and death from the surgery.  At least, for today.  Now, I am worrying about failing.  I have failed at every diet I was ever on.  I even failed a vertical banded gastroplasty 25 years ago when I was in my 20's.  I love sweets!  I am willing to give it all up, but worry my resolve won't stay.  I don't want to pay over $20,000 for this surgery only to screw it up.

Sweetie: Do some more research to calm your mind.  Dumping syndrome will break even the wildest sugar-aholic.  Past failures are just that...in the past.  Stop looking back and beating yourself up.  The beauty of the RnY is that you will have a magnificent tool to help you limit the sugar.  in my past life I could easily eat a cake in one day or a pie...or half a cheesecake...or a whole bag of candy.  If I can do it...you can do it.  Make your decision, focus on your goal and then do it.  No one can ever fault you if you do your personal best. Big supportive hug! Freddie

The fear of failure is in us all I believe. I still make mistakes but we learn from them and move on. It is hard to believe now but you will learn what you can and can't eat and what affects your pouch, believe e after getting sick you will lose desire to eat sweets or whatever made you sick again. We are all here to support you .

I think we were all scared of failure (and still are to a degree). The truth is, as long as you do your best, then you are not failing. This is not a "magic pill". It will be a lifestyle change and you will learn so much from it to take with you and live a long healthy life. There will be temptations along the way and you will give into them but that is a part of life. You just have to get past it. I always say that it is probably imposible to live the rest of your life without eating a cookie so just eat the freakin cookie and move on. hahaha. Just maybe try to get the sugar free ones and it will be one or two as opposed to a whole bag (which was normal for me before surgery). Of course the cookie being a metaphore for whatever your weakness is. I was big on pizza before surgery and I could not tolerate the crust after surgery so thanks to melinda, I just learned to make my own individual pizzas at home that were low carb and low fat. You will learn the tricks of the trade too. I know you will be successful. You just have to believe it. And you will once you notice all of the changes that will happen to you after surgery.

I think to a point we have all been where you are. We are humans, and our minds tend to wonder about all kinds of things. Like others have said, just go read more information, talk with your doctor and family and try to look at this as a new beginning. What was is exactly that, what was, it's gone. When I remarried 5 years ago, I thought I had found a new life and I did, but my WLS was even bigger than that. There is always going to be bumps in the road no matter what course we take. Yes sometimes it's hard to climb over those bumps, but we do. Think how boring life would be if everything was perfect. I am not trying to make light of any situation by no means. You are doing this for you and God will lead you in the right direction. I hope my 2 cents makes some kind of sense for you. The good thing is that you continue to post and you need to do that. I would be really concerned if we didn't hear from you. We care about you and are thinking about you and your decision. Maybe we still can meet up with you while I am down there, that will be right before your surgery. Have a great day and keep your chin up. Cheryl

Thank you all so much.  My DH is so supportive, but last night he said, if you don't lose weight, I 'll kill you!  He was joking, but concerned also about the money we are spending.  It is partly my retirement and money I would spend on a new car.   Cheryl, PM me and I will give you my phone number and you can call if you get a chance in your schedule!
