Needing a few extra hugs
Hey, Friends ~
Just wanted to share with you... My grandmother is very ill and may not make it through the night - or she may hang on a few days - who knows...
She has been in an assisted living place for about 6 months or so. About 2-3 weeks ago she developed a really bad bronchial cough. Her doctor gave her a shot of roceffin (sp) and put her on a 2-week round of antibiotics. This past Thurs., her cough seemed worse, not better. So Friday, my grandfather took her to the ER to be, what they thought, treated and released. Maybe she needed another round of antibiotics or something. she was diagnosed with pneumonia and admitted her.
Apparently they had some suspicions, and ran a CAT scan. the long and short of it is... she has several spots on her lungs -- cancer. The dr. said this has mastesized from her breast cancer from years ago, and that generally before it hits the lungs, it will hit other places first (kidneys, etc), so he is confident that it is most likely wide-spread throughout.
There is no sense in aggressively treating the pneumonia to help her get well just to fight/die from the cancer, so they are doing what they can to make her comfortable, but the dr. doesn't hold out much hope. he told my mother (at about 11am) that she could last 30min to 2-3 days.
I am originally from Colorado, and that's where my parents and grandparents are. It's terribly hard to be so far away! My grandma just keeps saying she's ready to go - that she just wants to go home and be with her Lord. Please pray for my grandmother - that she will go quickly and not be in much pain. Also, pray for my grandfather --- he's already exhausted and won't leave the hospital because he doesn't want to be gone "when it happens". also, this ha**** my mom muc harder than she expected. They've had a pretty rocky relationship. she said she thought she'd be sad when this time came, but never expected it to hit her this hard.
Thank you all for your love, friendship, and support!

I to am apart from my grandparents, well grandma. I lost my grandpa last April, I had a tremendous abount of guilt about not seeing him since I moved her almost 7 years ago. It is so hard, but we can not blame ourselves. Take care, you are in my thoughts.

Thank you all so much for your prayers. I got the call at about 1:45am -- she had passed away just before midnight (Colorado time). I am so glad she did not suffer. My mom said her breathing just kept getting more and more shallow, and she just went to sleep and quit breathing. How merciful our God is!
