Question about the 2 day Clear Liquid diet

Hi all, I couldn't seem to get my question answered today by the medical powers that be, so I thought I would check with y'all.  While on the 2 day clear liquid pre-op diet, can I add protein powder to my broth or drink an Isopure?  I called the Doc's office and they forwarded me to the Nut. She said to follow the instructions from the hospital pre-op testing handout. I looked at the handout and it stated that I should follow my doc's instructions. Felt like I was going in circles.  LOL So I thought I would ask the ones with experience! The reason I am asking is because I have hypoglycemia and I'm a little concerned about not being able to have anything bu****er and broth. Don't want to pass out. Thanks in advance! diane

The clear liquids is nothing but Jello, water, broth, and SF pops, nothing red or purple either.  If you are very careful, you probably will not have any problems with the hypoglycemia for the two days.  The purpose of this is to clear you out, without having to do the normal "Clean Out" process.   Good Luck and you can do this!! Hi Diane. I was worred about my sugar during my 8 day liquid diet too. Luckily it worked out fine. I just stayed at home and got plenty of rest. I did get dizzy at times but I made it through. During our 8 days, we were able to use the carnation instant breakfast packs that you mix with milk. But we had more than just clear liquids. If you are only clear liquids, then no, you should not be allowed to add any protein to your fluids. It is primarily the broth, water, jello (except they probably told you no red jello), etc etc. I believe you can do popsicles and maybe even some tea but check your handout to see. The chicken broth really helped a lot  - especially when you wanted something hot.The two days will fly by because you will bne pre occupied with whats to come. Just tkae it easy and get plenty of rest.

Thanks Misty!  Yep, I've had a few dizzy spells at work this week, but had to keep working so that I could train the person covering for me.  I did manage to get today off though.  Well, I guess the clear diet begins at midnight tonight! Yippee!!! It's almost here!!!!! Can't believe I am actually looking forward to pureed food. LOL

If you have major problems...call Dr. Spaw.  He is just a phone call away. I am so excited for you!  Drink lots of delicous chicken stock and different flavors of Crystal Light.  Before you know it, we will be visiting you in the hospital and telling you how wonderful you look! Do you want visitors?  Some people do...some don't.  I would love to bring you a little something for your journey if you don't mind.  Just p.m. me and let me know. Big smile! Freddie

Hi Diane, I just had lapband on 11/29 and went through a 7 day liquid diet at Centennial with Dr. Dyer.  And he had me do the nasty ole Magnesium Citrate too, only one bottle!  But, it's just chicken broth, sf popsicles and jello.  I know a whole lot to choose from, but with only 2 days to do it, that's not bad at all.   I didn't have the sugar issues to deal with, so I cannot help you there.  I guess all I can say is to just keep a check on it and don't let it suddenly drop on you. Good Luck and Hugs coming your way!! Tammy P 11/29/07 Dr. Dyer Lap Band

Hi Tammy!!! First let me say congratulations!!!! I am so happy for you and hope thay you have a speedy recovery! Thanks for the hugs and encouragement. Hey, only a day and a half more to go. LOL I'm SO glad I don't have to do the Magnesium Citrate stuff....not fun. So I'll gladly sip my chicken broth and water. We're on our way!!!!!   diane
