What a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Nov. 22, 2007 (Thanksgiving) will go down in my book as a perfect day. We stayed home and celebrated, just the four of us. As much as I love being with extended family and traveling and seeing everyone, sometimes there's nothing better than closing off the rest of the world and focusing just on the ones you love most!
Let me preface this by saying, I haven't cooked a Thanksgiving meal since 1995... the first several years it was because we weren't home. We would fix a dish or two to contribute to the "gathering", but that was it. The last several years, I couldn't have done it no matter how badly I wanted to, just because of my health. No. 1, I wasn't able to stand on my feet for hours cooking. No. 2, if I had, I would have ended up in bed for the rest of the day. No. 3, I would probably end up in bed for the next 2-3 days! but not this year...
I cooked a full Thanksgiving feast! Turkey, ham, mashed potatoes/gravy, stuffing, green beans, corn... and topped off with decaf tea sweetened with Splenda! I did it! I did it! I just danced around the kitchen afterward like I'd won the lottery... I was just so excited to have been able to do this for my family and even afterward, I felt great!
We gathered around the table, held hands, and each one named 3 things we are thankful for, then John said the blessing. We all enjoyed the yummy dinner - and I was so pleased --- I did not overeat, nor did I eat too fast. I was so proud of myself (and relieved!) :)
After dinner, we watched a little football and let our tummys settle. Then, around 3:15pm --- all 4 of us went outside and PLAYED FOOTBALL!! First it was me and Harrison against John and Grantham. Then we switched and Grantham and I took on John and Harrison. We had so much fun! I think it meant almost as much to the boys as it did to me! I definitely think we've started a new family tradition! And it felt great to know that I was the one that inspired my family to "be active"!
I was talking to my mom and told her, "It feels so good to feel so good!" I truly have soooo much to be thankful for!
And just for the record, I have lost 61 pounds, and have 60 to go to 125. I am wearing some 16's, some 18's in pants/jeans, and some "large"(s) in tops! Can't wait to see where I am by Christmas... by New Year's... by my birthday (Jan. 21). To think that in two months I may be back down to where I was in college (24 years ago)...
So as one friend said, "We set new goals, and reach them. Then, we set new goals, and reach them. Then, we set new goals..."

I'm sure this will also live on in the memories of your sons. What wonderful family memories they are going to have.
I am so proud of you!
