41 pounds in 2 months????

I am 8 weeks post op and have only lost a total of 41 pounds. Shouldn't I be losing faster than this? Or is this normal? Could you tell me how much you lost in your first two months?

Thanks,

Melissa

Everyone loses at different rates. You can't compare your weight loss to another's loss. A lot of it depends on how much you have to lose... a 300lb person will lose more in the beginning than a 250lb person. A good way to judge your weight loss is to go by the percentage of weight loss versus number of pounds. Also, I would suggest taking monthly pictures. It is really neat to see your progress in pictures. A lot of times, we can't really judge our weight loss based on appearance b/c we look at ourselves every day, but seeing it from a month to month perspective.. it is really amazing. My pictures are in my profile. I'm really glad I took them! They also were a great motivator when I wasn't exactly motivated lol Oh, and take measurements too! You'll be amazed that some weeks you'll lose inches but not lose a single pound.

I think that is wonderful.  20.5 lbs a month!  Good for you and congratulations.  I am also 8 weeks out and have lost 45lbs.  Lost 30 prior surgery.

Sweetie, have you ever lost 41 pound in 2 months before?  Just rejoice in the loss and keep doing what you are doing.  Be sure carbs are outta here and that you are getting all your protein in.  Start moving if you havent already.  Exercise really matters.  And the more you exercise the more muscle you build.  That may make the scales not move much but you can tell it in your clothes.  Smile and contine your success. Melissa -

You are doing a fantastic job!  Like April said... everyone's body is different.  This is working for you.  I know how you feel. I was very disappointed when I looked at my weight loss compared to others, but believe me... it is worth it!  I have lost over 60lbs since surgery and I am 4 months post-op today.  I had my doubts thinking that I could have done this on my own, but thinking about it - I've been able to lose weight before - I've just never been able to keep it off.

Also I have noticed a BIG change since I have started jogging/walking.  It really helps!  Take Care- ~Amber~

Melissa: I completely understand.  My surgery brother (Paul) who had his RNY right before me has lost 101 pounds.  I have lost 71.  But you know what?  I'm doing great and so is he!  We are very different people.  We are both doing great and so are you!  I am at a plateau right now and while it is frustrating...I know that it is completely normal.  Just relax and enjoy your new life! Kisses to your little worried face! Freddie

I am 3 months post op and have lost 63lbs.   I don't exercise like I should or mine would be more.  I am glad about my loss because normally it would take me 6-8months to lose that much.  I am only worried that it's gonna get harder and it's not easy now!!  It's slow going but again that's all because of me and how I use my tool. Good for you and keep up the good work!

Now calm down and ask yourself, have you ever lost an average of 5 lbs a week for 8 weeks.  It has been a while but I didn't lose that until my 3rd month.  Eveeryone loses at a different rate and if you start to compare yourself you are setting yourself up for failure.  Just keep doing what you are suppose to do and it will be ok.

Give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done.
