Hi Ya'll, I'm not feeling very well.  I seem to have a chest cold and am going to the Dr. in the a.m.  My question is this, what drugs can I take for this?  I am not able to take anything with Guafinosin (Musinex) in it.  Are steroids o.k.?  I don't have trouble taking pills.  I am open to all suggestions.  This is the first major illness since WLS and I will have to educate the Dr. too.  Thanks. Beth,

I have been told any of the Tylenol products are okay, so you may want to try the Tylenol Severe cold and Flu.

Hope you feel better soon, Shelia

Beth,

I know how you feel, I have that darn cold this week too, it is very energy zapping.  I don't have any problem taking Mucinex and that is what I have been taking plus an antibiotic and a nasal spray.  The PCP gave me a sample of NasacortAQ, and it has kept my head clear.  I did get a shot of Rocefin(sp) antibiotic in one hip and a steroid shot in the other, the only side effect was that the injection site of the steroid was sore a couple day.  Hope this helps you  and you feel better soon.

Darlene

BTW is the mucinex problem WLS related or something else?  Should I not be taking it?

Since we are supposed to avoid NSAIDS (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) I would think steroids would be okay. Just know that you will probably show a weight gain while on them and for a few days to a week after you finish. Like Shelia said, Tylenol products are safe for us. If in doubt, call your surgeons weekend number. Hope you get to feeling better. Bundle up well for the football game!

Beth ~  I'm really sorry you're not feeling well! Tylenol sinus is working really well for me, but mine is not down in my chest. Take care of yourself --- bundle up if you still go to the game. And try to get in some extra fluids over the next few days...   ~ Tara By the way, PM me and we will meet when you feel better. I have quite a few 22's and 24's for you!

NSAIDS and steriods are both on the do not take list because of the risk of causing ulcers in the pouch.  Injectable steroids are ok. Sudafed should help.  Stay away from Afrin.  It helps initially, but then causes rebound symptoms when you try to stop using it.

Hi Ya'll!!   Thanks for allof the inputs.  I went to the Dr. And have a chest cold.  She gave me two shots in the butt, and yes, they did hurt.   I got an antibiotic and a steroid, she also gave me a perscription for liquid antibiotics to take with meals.  I was lucky, she was well aware of WLS and the conditions we carry, so I did not have to educate her.  Now, I hope I feel better by Monday morning!  I will dress warmly for the football game and keep my ears covered.  Have a great day.

Beth
