Hey ladies and gents. Hope everyone is doing well this fine Sunday morning. Ok here is my deliema( SP)? I am almost a year and half out and have noticed lately that I am getting hungry in the mornings. I used to be able to do a protein shake and be good till lunch.. well not so much now. I do a protein bar now and after  a while I feel like I am hungry. Any suggestions or advice would be apprecaited. I am still wanting to lose and so afraid that now that I am so far out and getting hungry it may not happen.

Juanita,           I am not as far out as you are, but what about some free veggies, are you able to eat something like this and do well?  If so, maybe they would help you with the hunger and not provide too many calories, I know you need protein first, but if you are not having problems with your protein, maybe the veggies could help!!!  Just my .02 worth!! Hey Shelia, I don't have issues with veggies. I will give this a try and see if it helps any.

The time between lunch and dinner is horrible for me...even before I found out I was pregnant.

Maybe you can do your shake in the morning and add a little bit later a carb master yogurt or cheese stick..something with a little more substance and the added benefit of protein to chase away those hunger pains. Also, are you exercising more whether it be in intensity or duration? Increased exercise will undoubtedly contribute to your hunger.

Hey April. My exercise has stayed the same have increased intensity and also added a mile walk at the end of my workout so maybe that is one reason I am getting hungry. I am just frustrated because my NUT has always said No to snacks! Darn it I am hungry! LOL Although the last time I saw my Nut she did say if I fond myself needing xtra substance after morning protein to add a small meal in the mornings..

Hi Juanita. I do not think a protein shake will hold you over now that you are further out. Most nutritionist will tell you to change over to solid types of food to hold you over. I have tried to split my "Breakfast" up. Like right now, I am eating a protein bar for breakfast and then an hour to 2 later, a banana. But you could also change to protein cereal (like Special K Protein or Kashi) or even oatmeal. Something with some type of fiber and/or carb in it should hold you over. If that doesn't hold you over, You should find a mid morning snack to eat. As long as you are eating healthy snacks. If you get hungry, eat a few nuts or a yogurt or banana or something more healthy. That will not hurt you. In fact, I would think it would help to keep your metabolism up. I actually eat three meals a day and one snack. My snack is between lunch and dinner and it is a yogurt. Cause that is when I get snacky. I think when the nutritionist said no snacks, she meant snacking on unhealthy foods all day long. But in my opinion it is better to eat three meals a day and one or two snacks in between to keep your metabolisim up and as long as it is healthy, you should be fine. Especially since you uped your work outs. You may need more calories. It is not a bad thing. You are doing great. You just have to find something to snack on or find a breakfast that can hold you over. Good luck.

Okay honey girl, since I am coming up on my 2 year mark, I know what you are talking about. I think you need to change to a denser breakfast. Something that is going to stay with you. Perhaps an egg and veggie omelet, or as suggested cereal like oatmeal, Special K w/protein, or Kashi. Also, if you divide a normal meal into a smaller meal plus a snack you can keep your calories low but not go so long before eating again. I tend to get hungry between lunch & dinner so that is when I plan my snack. I tend to drink a lot of fluids between breakfast and lunch so I don't need a snack during that time. If you plan your snacks you can fit the calories into your daily meal plan. I think it is unreasonable of someone who has not had the surgery to tell us how to space our meals. As long as we pay attention to our caloric intake, protein, carbs, fats and sugars and avoid mindless grazing, we should be able to decide what works best for us. Some people do well on 3 meals and no snacks. Others of us need to break our food intake into 4 or more "mini-meals" spaced throughout the day. If you allow yourself to become too hungry between meals, you increase the risk of eating something you would normally be able to avoid.  You are doing so well. Give yourself permission to listen to your body and do what is best for you.
