Hi yes you are supposed to be getting in 64 ozs of water a day.  I find it hard at times, but the only time I drink water in a bottle is when I leave the house, and when I am out walking. Otherwise if I put it over ice in a glass, then I can get in more.  Remember sf popsickles, sf jello, crystal lite are water products too.  They count towards your water intake.  When I go out to eat, I take my own Deer Park water, I have to have something to drink when I eat, or the food won't go past my top dentures.  Food places serve tap water which makes me very sick. So I take my own water to drink.  I don't leave the apartment unless I have a bottle with me.  I will be taking one with me in the morning.  I know nothing by mouth after midnight before surgery, so I take a denture cup and sip and spit. I can't stand my mouth dry, especially without my dentures in. The nurses and sleep Dr.'s ask too many questions that I can't answer with my mouth dry. So once they get my IV started, then that's when the water gets taken away from me.  I need to be up at 4am as I am first on the docket for surgery.  That's around 8am. Have to be in Nashville at 6am.  If I take my pills just before Midnight with milk, I'll be out for 8 hours. I thought of going to bed even just for a nap. But I have several things to do before tomorrow morning.  Like sort my laundry for my son to pick it up and do it for me.   I even make decafe iced tea, that's water, homemade lemonade is water supply.  So it's easier to get in your liquids when you have a variety. Talk to you later.  Love Kathy

You aren't drinking and eating at the same time are you, Annrenee? I have to have some coffee in the am, but I still try to make sure to drink at least 4 .5ml bottles of water a day which is a little over 64 oz.  Believe me when I say that you must get your liquids in.  My pcp had a nurse who had the surgery in November of last year.  The girl had to go into the hospital 3 times because she was dehydrated and didn't get her liquids in.  It's ok to add things like Crystal Light to it to help with the flavor.

When I eat I do have to have a couple of sips of water,  I dont drink all the way through my meal but yes I have to have a sip or 2 after I eat because I am so dry,  I have always had a problem with eating and drinking but I am working on it.  I dont want to sabatoch(sp) my surgery in any way but it is very hard for me to get in all my water and get in 60 of protein but I continue to work on it I will not give up,  yes I maybe learning some things the hard way but I will continue to keep trying to do the right thing this is the hardest thing I have ever done for my self and I will not give up.  So any advice or experiences that any one has gone through will help. Thank you so tell me again why we are not to eat and drink at the same time?  just need to hear it again and maybe again and more. And why we need 64oz of water and limited caffine and what foods to eat the more I hear some one speak it to me the better. Thank you Annrenee

What I was told is that it flushes out the nutrients and doesn't give your body a chance to absorb them.  I also think that it fills you up quicker. Not that I'm a medical expert by any means, but just what I've been told.  Anyone out there want to add to this.  I'm not a doctor but I play one on tv...jk! I have heard that if you do the Isopures for protien that it counts towards your liquid, but those things are just nasty.

Drinking with your meal also washes the food out of your pouch faster so you become hungry sooner. You are approaching the point where hunger is going to start returning, if it hasn't already. You want to keep the food in your pouch long enough to keep you from becoming hungry and eating too soon and also so it has a chance to digest so you can absorb the nutrients. If you have to have a drink immediately after eating, it means you were not properly hydrated before your meal. You need to be drinking almost constantly during the "window" between meals. That means 1 hour after a meal and 15 - 30 minutes before your next meal you need to drink as much as you can. This will keep you from being so thirsty right after you eat and you will be able to wait the hour after the meal to begin drinking again.

Sweetbell, Susan, Thank you so much your information is so helpful,  I cant do the isopure  grrrrross.  I am working really hard.  Does everyone really truly have something in the hand to drink all the time.  I do feel like I am always drinking but I will just have to DRINK MORE! This is probably why my weight loss has stalled. I could use some good food ideas if you have any.. I do eat string cheese, yogurt, soups, protien bars, had my first small salad with boiled eggs and cheese, scrambled eggs with cheese, chicken, chicken salad, need to try tuna again threw it up. meat loaf with half ground turkey and half ground chuck, hambergers with out bun, I am eating 1/2 a cup to a cup does that seem to be about right,  I drink (any whey) 12 to 14oz at a time once or 2 a day I think i get my protein in. but if you have other lowfat food ideas i could use them.  What can I do with cottage cheese? I dont really care for it. Thank you again  Annrenee

I can't do tuna either. My pouch just doesn't like it. I've tried it 3 times since surgery and it came back up all three times. I really can't eat any canned meat. I've tried canned chicken, sardines, and tuna. Every time it comes up. I can eat chicken salad if it's made with fresh rotisserie or stewed chicken. I haven't tried fresh tuna yet, I'm afraid I'll get sick on it too. What are you putting your Any Whey in? Twelve to 14 ounces sounds like too much. Our guidlines are no more than 8 oz of anything at one sitting.
