Met my surgeon, Dr Dyer on Friday for the first time.

After & if the insurance approves the WLS, he wants to do a couple of more tests, one is to do with my legs/veins/blood clots risk, and the other on my lungs?

But hopelessness filled my entire being when he mercilessly verbalized the words of…

                3 week liquid diet.

I’ve not been on any type of liquid diet since my navy days and I don’t think he’s talking about the same thing! LOL

But seriously I knew I would most likely be put on one because of how the weight loss benefits your WLS, but the difficulty of the diet is that

I just don’t believe in myself enough to do it.

any tips??

Hey Man, I have been exactly where you are right now.  I was 383lbs when I decided to have Gastric by-pass.  I knew I wanted to get controll back over my life and this was the only way to do it.  If I did not take controll I would probably be dead right now.  You just have to make your mind up that this is what you want to do.  This site is the best thing that could happen for all of us.  These people on here become your friends and will encourage you and help you in any way possible.  We all become family.  I was 39 when I had mine done, so I know where you are and what you are feeling.  So if you have any questions or if you need anything at all....no matter what it is, please contact me.  I would be honored to do anything I could for you.  Mike

Hi There,  Don't let the liquid diet scare you, the three weeks will fly by. It's worth the 3 weeks discomfort to feel so much better. Steve

Dr. Dyer is my surgeon, in fact I had my surgery Wednesday and just got home and this is the first time I have been on the computer since.  I had to do two weeks of liquid diet and thought it would be awful.  I was truly amazed at how easy it was for me.  I am one who enjoys dining out with friends every night and I did not sacrifice this pleasure.  There were nights when they chose to eat places I couldn't find anything, but I'd have a diet drink and some water and then have a shake or some yogurt when I got home.  I didn't want to feel like I was being punished.  The time went quickly and I did not ever feel hungry.  I enjoyed the EAS Advantedge shakes with a little variety in flavoring and it went great.  I looking forward to getting to that level again, as this clear crap isn't all that great, but a necessary step.  You can do whatever you need to do if you want something badly enough.  You can call on me for support any time.  I am a lifelong lover of food and this transition is not a n easy one, but we can get through it and will with the support of one another and all the good folks here on the Tennessee board.

Hey G, the purpose of the liquid diet prior to surgery is to shrink a fatty liver, if you are referring to after surgery, trust me, you won't fill hungry.  In fact you won't actually feel hunger pains until sometime around 6-8 months out.  There's apple juice, sf popsickles, sf pudding, decafe tea with splenda, crystal lite, broth.  It sounds awful right now, but it will pass faster then you will expect.  all that except for the pudding, goes towards you water intake.  I would have 2 ozs of sf jello, 2 ozs of apple juice, and 2 ozs of broth for breakfast and I was full.  Before you know it, you'll be on pureed or soft foods.  We know you can do it, it's a matter of mine over matter.  Set your mind that you can do it and you will be surprised when you actually find you can do it, it will help get the weight started coming off.  I'll keep you on my prayer list. Always
