Seeking New Surgeon Medicare/Medicaid/TennCare

Hey all,

I am almost done my six month diet stint and am now seeking a new surgeon. One that accepts Medicare because it's my primary. The good thing about having Medicare is it's one of those insurances where you can go where you need to go to get the medical attentention you need. I also have Medicaid and TennCare as well.  I was looking at other Dr.'s because Dr. Dyer is not accepting Medicare beneficiaries that have BMI's over 50 and I hate it but if I could get below that all my own I would have been done that. I was lucky enough to get below 60. I called some offices but the distance is the problem. I talked to someone else asking if TennCare has a limit on how far they transport you to the doctor and I didn't get a clear answer so I will have to pull out my manual for that one but if anyone has used any surgeons and you know they accept Medicare assignment by all means please make comments. I did check on Dr. Colquitt and Dr. Jonathan Ray and they are accepting Medicare from what I see but I will call to make sure tomorrow. I live in the Shelbyville area if that will help anyone out.  Thanks for all comments and suggestions.

Have you checked with Dr. Spaw at Baptist in Nashville? I know that he is/was in the process of getting on the list of Medicare providers. My BMI was 53 when I had my surgery and it was done lap. Dr. Spaw has had several patients with a BMI of over 50.

Hey Susan and thanks for replying! Yes, I have been checking with Dr. Spaw because I knew he was trying to be able to accept Medicare beneficiaries and he is being held up by Medicare for some reason. I would have loved to have had him as well, because I know of his reputation. I assure you I will find someone. Thanks again Susan.

hi, I'm going to dr.colquitts office. they are awesomw they have a complete program, before classes after classes for your journey to wls i'm having the lap band. i chickened out on the gastric!  hope this helps,   where is shelby? i'm in east tn.  

Hey Momma....lol. I am so happy that you just reassured me about Dr. Colquitt's office. I felt like he may be good. I have read a lot of positive things about him. I am one that lives on the edge. So I'm going for the full gastric. Shelbyville is about 53 miles south of Nashville..... I believe it's south of Nashville. I may be wrong! I can say that I am in between Murfreesboro and Tullahoma. I think I will opt for Dr. Colquitt's office either way it goes. Thanks for the reply!
