Achy Breaky Body

I am currently on the sixth day of my liquid diet before my surgery on Wednesday, September 26th.  I have been pleasantly surprised with how little real hunger I am feeling, but am wondering why I am having so many muscle spasms, charley horses, and just deep joint aches.  Is this a normal side effect of the liquid diet or am I doing something wrong?   I have been working every day and that has proven to be a positive thing.  (I;m a retired teacher and substitute when I want to get out of the house....)  I was in such pain last night after I got home I had to decline jobs today.   I had problems getting to sleep last night because of the aching.  I'm a regular Advil user in times like this and of course can't have that, and have't had my Voltaren for a couple of weeks either.  Tylenol doesn't touch this pain, or much of my pain for some reason.  Any suggestions or input is welcome.  Hope I am not doing anything wrong.  Thanks for your help.

You may be low in potassium, that is usually what causes muscle spasms.  Call your surgeon and talk to them or the nutrionist and they can tell you what to do for it.   Darlene

That's how I felt when my potassium was too low, plus very nauseated, mine was from  my chemo therapy.  V8 juice is high in Potassium, OJ is too, plus you may be just going thru carb withdrawals.  Check with your surgeon.  It really sounds more like carb withdrawals as you are on liquids and not getting in the carbs like you were probably used to.  Ask your surgeon, you may just need to get a simple blood test to check your potassium, it can be done just *****ing the finger.  I wish you well.  Love

Thanks to Kathy and Darlene for their input.  You are both probably right about the potassium.  I don't really think the carb withdrawal is an issue because I did a low carb diet as my six month weight loss program and never stopped that.  I am a real sugar junkie, so I don't allow myself fruit or fruit juices as they both trigger my sugar desires.  I did call the doc today but was too late I suppose as no one called me back with any info.  I've had a pretty lazy day today and it is some better, so hopefully I can make it to Wednesday and my surgery without too many more problems.
