Ok, a little help please.  I just got my two week pre-op liquid diabetic diet in the mail and I guess it was not what I was expecting.  It is most juice and regular soda and gatorade.  Does any one know if there are alternatives.  I knew it was going to be hard, but I guess I just wasn't realistic.  I feel like I am set up to fail, before I have began.  and what this will do to my blood sugars I have no guess.  Anyone have any magical words of wisdom, because I sure could use some.  Thanks Kim

It says to have soda, juice and gatorade?  Those are big NoNo's.  Call Pam H ( the nutritionist) in the morning and have her help you.  She is very helpful and knows her stuff.

I am on my second day of the ten day - two week diet from Dr. Dyer.  My diet sheet says 1, a limit of 2 C. of juice, gatorade, or powerade...I have done low carb for so long I wouldn't dream of putting that much sugar in my system for fear of starting a cycle that would be too hard to break, so I am not doing any of that... 2.  Three or less servings /day of regular jello, popsicles, or no sugar added fudgesicles...again, not in my plans.  3.  3 or less servings a day of skim, soy, or lactaid milk, 8 oz. light/fat free yogurt,  or 1/2 C. low fat cottage cheese. 4.  2 (and I was told I could go to as many as 4) EAS protien shakes or Isopure Zero Carb liquid protien supplements. 5.  Any sugar free liquids in any amount, including diet soda!! (my shining star), broths, soups, Sugar free popsicles and SF jello... There is a note at the bottom that says diabetics are recommended to consume 15 G. of carbs every 1-2 hours, monitoring your sugar regularly.    To get the 15 G. of carb you could have 1/2 C. regular soda; 1/2 C. orange, apple, or grapefruit juice; 1/2 C. Kool-aid; I reg. popsicle; or 1 C. milk.   Fortunately I am not a diabetic so this doesn't apply to my.  I have almost gone into sugar overload with the small carton of FF banana cream pie yogurt.... Sugar really triggers my hunger big time.   Good luck.  Hang in there.  We'll be ready for our surgery soon!

mine says 4oz of juice, then 2 hours later 4 oz juice, then skim milk, 1 reg popcycle, 1/2 cup yogurt, more juice, gatorade, 4 oz regular cola, yogurt, more juice.  I did not have a little note on the bottom saying I could have anything else, and it said drink to protein drinks through the day.  that was it.  I'm really worry about the sugar.  I do have Diabetes.

I agree with Samantha, call the nutritionist and discuss this with them.  They will know what to tell you and we would be speculating.  I had the surgery so long ago, I didn't do 2 weeks. Good luck, Darlene
