My question is for anyone who has either had Dr. Lynch or another Dr. at Baptist MSC in Nashville: I have done the seminar, decided on lap rny, gotten a letter of approval from my insurance, and been approved by Dr. O'Bryan.  Now I  have an appointment with Dr. Lynch and a nutritionist on Wed.  From your experience,  how much time should I expect to pass between Wed appointments and the actual surgery assuming all goes well?  The sooner I can get an idea,  the sooner I can make plans re work, etc.  Being single and having a dog, there are a lot of things I'll  have to arrange in the immediate time before and after the surgery. Cheers, Aaron

Welcome to the Board! I went through Vanderbilt but once I got my approval my surgery date was 2 weeks later. There are several here that have gone through Baptist and could give you a better idea. I just wanted to say hello and say Welcome to the TN Board!

Congratulations Aaron! I used Dr. Spaw at Baptist. I had my surgery 4 weeks after my approval letter. They did things differently then and I had met with Dr. Spaw prior to submitting to insurance. Your surgery date will depend on how booked they are. If they give you a date that doesn't give you enough time to get things settled at work and with your dog, you can always tell them a date that would work better for you. They may even ask you what date you want and give you some options to choose from. I would go ahead and get your FMLA paperwork from your human resources department so you can take that to your appointment. You don't have to tell them what kind of surgery you are having if you don't want to. That is private information and they can't share it anyway. But, you have the right to just say you are having surgery and will need to be off on medical leave. (I'm in HR, can you tell?) Make sure you let us know when your date is.

Hey Aaron,  I have Dr. Morton at Baptist. They called me on a Monday, I started my two week pre-op diet on Tuesday and I had my WLS two weeks from that. So once everything got approved it went real quick for me. Hope all goes well for you. Cheryl

I went the Baptist also.  I had Dr. McDowell.  He was awesome.  I had my 2 week pre=op diet and then had the surgery.   I understand rearranging things around the surgery.  I had to also being single and all.  Good luck!!!

Hi.  I had Dr. Lynch.  I went for my first appointment with him and the nutritionist and I picked a surgery date that same day.  I went for my appointment on 8/15 and my surgery was scheduled for 9/4.  Now, i had the option of earlier than that, but i chose that date.  I could have been scheduled a early as 8/27.  So, you're only looking at a couple of weeks.  Congratulations.
