Had Surgery, Came Home, Things seem to be going well
First of all, I am not so good at these types of computer things. I will have to figure out how to put on a picture or something, I look funny as a blue box. I had surgery on Monday, Sept 10 and was doing very well by 4 that afternoon. The nurses got me up to walk to the door, but we just kept going around 1/2 of the floor. I have had no issues keeping ice chips, water, liquid stuff and puree items down. Had some sinus issues the 2nd day, but we restarted the Claritin-D and things there have been really good since. I was allowed to leave the hospital on Thursday afternoon and we tried puree eggs. They were not very good sort of rubbery and tasteless. I remembered that the support group mentioned Wendy's chili so that was tried along with extra beef broth and was better. This morning we tried eggs again with a little cheese, and well, my husband added some picante, it was much better but too spicey, barely got past the lips. This afternoon he made me some tomato soup from a book we bought and that was really good. I think I had 4 ounces over the course of 60 minutes. Pat also went today and bought me 2 Route 44 Sonic cups of ice (50 cents worth) so my water has been cold all day with those little ice chips. I am doing really well with my water today since I gave up the bottle and switched to an 8 oz cup. Seems like I don't take in as much air so it isn't the chore it was Thursday and Friday. It is nearly 6pm and I only have 16 oz of water left for the day. Yesterday I worked all day on water and only got about 30oz in. Sort of disappointed with that. I have had some pullng at the wound site today that is annoying. I took a pain pill today since I pulled them a bit while sleeping. I am so sorry that this is rambling, but I am just so excited that everything seems to be going well. I have a great support group wth my family and lots of prayers. Thanks for reading this rambling writing. I will attempt to be more to the point in future. I am positive I will have a million questions and chances are I will not have any idea how to find them from previous posts. I will look but.... Just excited about the "Hope" I have been feeling for the last month.

Sweetie, you shouldn't even be eating chile or solids at this time. You just got out of the hospital and should still be on liquids while your pouch is healing. Pureed foods come after about 3 weeks of liquids for the gastric bypass. SF popsickles, sf jello, water, broth, apple juice, decafe tea, there's your water supply. I'm happy you had your surgery and are doing fine, but if you want to continue doing fine, get off the solid foods including eggs, chili, all that. It's clear liquids for the first 2-3 weeks after surgery or you will damage your pouch. It takes 6 weeks to heal, 3 is liquid then 3 pureed before you can consider adding any other foods. Beef and pork are the worst because of the fat content. Most of us weren't even allowed that until after 6 months. Honey, please check with your nutrionist about what you are allowed to eat after just getting out of the hospital. You could do some serious damage and end back in the hospital. Please for your health. Stay with clear liquids while your pouch is healing. Love ya, and glad you are home, and I don't want to see you had to go back in the hospital. If that pouch gets ruptured, you could die, it's that serious.
I'll keep you in my prayers sweetie, but call and find out what you are allowed after just having the gastric bypass. Kathy

Kathy,
I have the same surgeon as Tawnya and he sends us home on 2-3 days of full liquids and then 8 weeks of pureed so she is following her surgeon's orders.
Glad to hear you're doing well, Tawnya.

Checked my orders and it does say pureed food. Granted the majority of these have been more less substanstial than then the S/F Breakfast. My husband also said the tomato soup was only 2 ounces and not 4. Stewed tomatoes and chicken broth more like tomato chicken water. I'll check again with my nutrisitionist on Monday. This morning, I am having the S/F instant breakfast. :-)
