INSURANCE EXCLUSION
WELL MY INSURANCE COMPANY CALLED ME BACK TODAY AND THEY ABSOLUTLY ARE NOT WILLING TO CHANGE OUR EXCLUSION POLICY WHEN IT IS RENEWEL TIME IN OCTOBER...I AM SO DEPRESSED RIGHT NOW...THAT WAS MY GLIMMER OF HOPE....MY HUSBAND HAS TOTALLY SAID NO WAY TO A HOME EQUITY LINE OF CREDIT...SO HOW IN THE WORL AM I GONNA GET $14,000 ...MY HUBBY AND I GOT INTO AN ARGUMENT (HE HAS NO IDEA HOW MUCH THIS MEANS TO ME) AND I STAYED HOME FROM SCHOLL AND SLEPT ALL DAY...CAN NOT FIND THE WILL TO DO ANYTHING RIGHT NOW!!
I am sorry to hear about the exclusion. You never know what might happen in the future, so pick yourself up, and do something about it. Insurance companies are known to change their policies. In the meantime, get on an excercise program, drink plenty of water, and eat smart. You can still lose some weight. Talk with your PCP about a Dr. supervised diet with monthly weigh-ins. You would have to do that anyways for the insurance to approve it, so get started on that and see where it leads. October is still a few weeks away. It may not happen this year, but it could happen next year and allow the surgery. In the meantime, you will have had a year at working out, eating right, monthly weigh-ins, and a whole new prospective on life. Just maybe your husband will change his mind when he sees you really trying to make a difference. It can't hurt but try.
Best to you, Kathy

Thanks Kathy, I am going to make an appointment with my regular Dr. today and see what I can do. I am so ready to make a change. I keep telling myself that only I can change me..but it's easy right now it' feels like my life is in someone else's hands and they are just saying...nah..just deal with it ..you know...well thanks alot anyway, Sheri

Hi Sheri,
I know how you feel except my insurance does cover it. I am having trouble because I don't have any health issues. Although I am 150 over-weight. I am like you, I have decided I may have to diet on my own for me. It is time for a change.
Best of luck, Ellen
I am sory to hear about the exclusion. That is all to common unfortunatley. But hang in there. I had an exclusion and thought it was over and gave up on the idea of having surgery only to change jobs a year later and found out that they covered it. So I was able to have surgery afterall. You never know what can happen. I hope you are successful in losing weight. I am not sure if you are open to it but they do have medical loans out there. I know Vanderbilt refers people to http://www.p-f-s.com/ for medical loans. Also, you may want to speak directly to the hospital of your choice and see what they can do to work with you on making payments. Good luck.

310(pre-surgery)
159 (current/post-pregnancy)
150 (Goal)
Thanks Misty, I do hope that once I graduate a find a job ( I'm a stay at home mom now) that my insurance will cover it ...the easiest way would be for me to get a home equity line of credit b/c we qualify for prime interest rate and it would only be about $80 a month extra but my husband ..absolutly will not agree...But I see that you only have 9 more lbs to go before you reach your goal How Great!!!! You go girl....ttyl, Sheri

Sheri,
I am so sorry about the exclusion. I know exactly what you are feeling. My insurance also excludes it, but I am going to try and fight it.
Some thing to think about - is your husband's employer (I'm assuming this is who your insurance is through) self-insured, I believe it's called? I found out just today that my employer is... meaning they can make the decision to overturn an appeal.
At any rate, I wish you the best. I know how discouraging it can be and how it can easily upset and depress you. I've been through this before and may go through this denial process yet again. Hang in there and in the meantime do all that you can to prove you are willing to work hard for this. You can always try to go for an appeal or hope that your husband will change his mind. Kick his butt if needed, LOL.

I went through that last yr. My hubby's work got a new insurance company. When I called to see what they covered they said absolutely no weight loss of any kind. A friend of mine told me that companies change exclusions every 3 mos. She told me to contact them every 3 mos. as policies change, I did and they did. Now I am back on the road again. I won't tell you I was so upset. I was like you, very heart broken. Please don't give up, we are all pull'n for you.
Barb
