dehydration

This is not fun, and can be very serious.  I became really sick on Monday after just eating some lowfat peach yogart.  I couldn't keep any fluids or food in me.  It hit me real fast.  I couldn't even urinate as I had nothing in me.  I went to the ER and had to have a bottle of saline given to me.  I felt fine when the sent me home a couple of hours later.  My legs and every bone in my body hurt and by Tuesday morning I was back in the ER getting another bag of saline.  This morning I was able to put out volume in urine.  It can be life threatening in the heat. I was drinking water (deer Park) , Gatorade, and Crystal lite and was still dehydrated.  I had a serious stomach virus.  I try to be extra careful because I have no immune system, wearing my masks, carrying hand santizer, my gloves, but I still got it.  I knew I was in trouble because nothing would stay in,  even my calves were wrinkled, I could pinch my skin and it wouldn't bounce back, I hurt everywhere.  With this heat we have been having, please take extra caution if you have to be out in it.   Whether you are post-op, or pre-op, make sure you always take a bottle of water or Gatorade to replenish your fluids from sweating whether from working out, or working.  I go no where without my Deer Park, I even take it to restaurants as I can't handle tap water and chemo together.   Be safe my friends.  If you suspect you are getting dehydrated look for these signs:      weak, not able to get enough to drink, bones (not body aches) hurt, skin won't bounce back into place, and your head hurts.  You will be sick to your stomach, and can't produce much in urine.  Get to the hospital fast.  Let them know you have been sick and feel dehydrated.  You will need to get the saline into you fast.  May take more, and if you are severe, be hospitalized over night.   I can drink plenty now, and still dehydrate that fast.  I knew what to look for as it happens to me at least twice a month because I am on chemo.   Love y'all,
 Kathy Newton
