Low Energy Level and cold since RNY

Hi all I'm back at work and very busy but I have been monitoring and praying for you all. Are low-energy and being cold short term symtoms of RNY surgery or do they eventually subside. I have always been the most hot-natured person in the office. I have kept our office air-conditioner on even in the winter time. Now everyone is laughing at me because I'm wearing a sweater and its a 100-degrees outside. As for the low-energy, this concerns me because I may not be getting enough nutrients. Has anyone experienced this and what did to you do to boost your energy levels. I went by the Sugar-Free store to buy some AO and Protein Boosters but they are sold out. Are these available elsewhere? Blessings Will

Try GNC or Vitamin Shoppe for isopure or other proteins...ready made and ready to mix kinds are available. Altough not the tastiest the isopure clear no carb protein drinks were my pick me up. Without them my energy levels plummetted. HAve a good one Beth B. in Chattanooga

Hi Will! There are several options for protein.  At the Vitamin Shoppe they sell an unflavored protein powder called Any Whey.  You can put it in just about anything.  It has very little (if any) noticable flavor.  I put it in my coffee in the morning. There are also several options available online at Bariatriceating.com.  The woman who owns it is one of us...she has had the surgery.   You probably won't be able to find AchievOne right now.  They are changing the production procedure and from what I hear it will be possibly the end of September before it will be readily available again. If you are interested in latte type drinks, you might consider making your own with a shot or two of decaf espresso and skim milk.  Then mix in an ounce or two of your favorite DaVinci syrup (I like the chocolate sauce) and a scoop of Any Whey.  Just make sure to let the coffee cool a bit before you add the protein (if it is too hot the protein lumps up and becomes a nasty mess!)   I also like to drin****d frappacinos.  I use pretty much the same recipe as above with a few exceptions.  I put about 13 ice cubes in a large shaker bottle.  To the ice, add 2 shots of decaf espresso, 2 Tablespoons vanilla sugarfree creamer, a packet or two of Splenda, 1 scoop of Matrix Perfect Chocolate, 2 Tablespoons of DaVinci (any flavor) or a squirt of CinnaBliss.  Shake it up and let the foam settle...Then enjoy!  Can you say YUMMY?!?!?!?!   I hope that these recipes will help. Good luck! Freddie

I am sitting here with two sweaters as we type! I FREEZE all of the time. It is ashame that I enjoy stepping outside in the 100 degree temps just to get out of the freezing air that people I work with keep it in here. I wish that subsides but from everything i heave heard, it doesn't anytime soon! I think it is just because the amount of calories you are getting in and when losing weight, you tend to be cold. So, I think of it as a good thing (Urrrggggghhhh).  One more thing that you can probably look forward to - the pain in the butt - literally!. As you lose weight, your butt bone will hurt. That is something else I notice a lot of people deal with and it really is uncomfortable. Energy level was one of my biggest problems. I could barely take a shower and wash my hair without collapsing for the first 5 weeks after surgery. The energy does start to come back once you are eating more and I do think protein levels have a lot to do with it. I think I struggled for the first several months with low energy because I was not getting in the required protien and I really complained alot about it. Make sure you are taking all of your required vitamins and do try to up your protein levels. You will begin to notice a difference in the weeks to come.

You can get the New Whey bullets at The Vitamin Shoppe. My energy level took about 2 months to get back to normal. I was getting all of my protein and fluids too. You have to remember that your body is still recovering from major surgery. Also, you are still carrying around most of your weight but you are asking your body to do it with a lot less fuel than before. Give it time, it will get better. As for the cold...I'm 19 months out and I still freeze. I have asked on the graduates board and heard from people who are several years out. Some of them say it has gotten better and others still freeze. It seems the ones who are still cold are more in the South. Hmmm, I wonder if that has anything to do with it? LOL

My sister is two yrs out and she is very cold natured now, but.....when she is really cold and has no energy she has had to go and have B-12 shots because she is usually anemic.

I changed to the B-12 shots last month. I've had 2 shots but I haven't noticed it helping any with being cold. As soon as I get home in the evening, I change into my flannel pj pants and a long-sleeve t-shirt and socks. Hubby sits there in just shorts with a fan blowing on him. I'm grateful that my boss likes the same temp in our office suite as I do. We can control our own temp from the rest of our building. Other employees come in and comment on how warm our offices are. I just tell them that if the man in the other office isn't complaining, they have no say in it. LOL We keep our door to the rest of the floor closed so we don't get their air conditioning. We have window air conditioner/heaters and right now, his is set on 72 and mine is on 76 to keep it from blowing on the back of my neck. We keep our adjoining door open for air flow.

Our AC went out at home and I didn't even notice.  My husband and daughter were about to melt but I was quite comfortable.  Susan...I am so jealous that you get to control your temperature at work!  We have to keep the temp around 68 where I work (because of the servers and computers.)  I look like a snowman with all of the layers of clothing!
