I thought this was Thursday, thank God it’s not I would hate to have to do it all over again.

I’ve been trying to get ready for surgery…..Once more I have a couple (if ya’ll are lucky) of questions…

If anyone had an open surgery, how hard is it to get out of bed once your home?

What are the bullets that are talked about pertaining to protein? What other choices are there out on the market.

Thanks for the help! I hope everyone is doing well…and staying cool….It is way hot for us fat folks.

Kym is the only recent "open" surgery I know of who is active on our board. She will have to address the post-op pain issue. The bullets we talk about are 3 oz New Whey bullets. They come in a variety of flavors and strengths. There are 25 g and 42 g strengths. Flavors are: grape, orange, fruit punch, and blue raspberry. Since we can't absorb the entire 42 grams of protein at one sitting, most of us will divide them into 2 servings. This allows you to get about 20 grams of protein in just a couple of sips. I purchase the bullets at The Vitamin Shoppe at Rivergate but you can also buy them locally at It's All Sugar Free in Antioch. There are all kinds of protein powders and ready to drink products available on the market. My suggestion would be to purchase samples so you can find what you like before you plunk your money down for a big jug. You can purchase samples at bariatriceating.com and some other sites whose names escape me right now.

Hey kiddo, regarding the question about getting out of bed from open surgery, you won't be sleeping in a bed, but a recliner.  It will take you about 6 weeks to recover and everything you do will be at a slower pace.  I know of a couple who both had to sleep in a recliner for 6 weeks because of all the staples.  Remember in an open surgery, you are cut from your breast plate all the way down.  No lifting, and you will walk at a very slow pace mostly just around your home for a while just to get in some form of excersise, plus to keep you from getting blood clots in your legs.  If you don't have one, either buy a used one, or rent one for that time frame.  Even in the hospital you will sleep in a recliner, and should your wife or a family member be there to help you, they are allowed to sleep in the room as well, but you'll be in a recliner.  Make no bones about that subject.  It keeps you from rolling over, tearing open your incision, and from hurting yourself in anyway.  Even my tummy tuck with 70 staples from hip bone to hip bone, I had to sleep in a recliner.  After a few days I was able to sleep on my sons couch, but I still had a hard time getting up and moving around.  May God guide you on this new journey.  You're in our prayers as your surgery date approaches.   Love
