Question for those who have more to lose

I have a lot of weight to lose...191 to be exact.  Anyone who has as much to lose, do you feel...and I REALLY hate to say this, but jealous or frusterated at people who have had  the surgery and didn't have as much to lose especially when they hit their goal?  I know this is wrong of me to feel like this, but sometimes I get the little green monster hanging over head and I'd love to just kick him to the curb. I know I'll probably be reaching my goal around Christmas and some people who had the surgery around the same time as I did are close to goal.  Just curious and how do you fight these feelings?   Another question, if you have had more to lose, do you find the weight loss slowing down after the 6 or 7 month mark? I'm finding the first 6 months I was losing around 3-5 pounds a week and now it has slowed to 1-3 pounds a week.  Thanks.

Alyssa, I had 236 lbs to lose so yes I know where your coming from .I don't get so much as you say jealous of others *****ach thier goal or have less to lose, I would say I get angry at myself for waiting so long to have the surgery. Also get angry at myself for letting my weight spiral out of control the way it did.  Yes the weight loss does slow down after 6 months, but I see it as still losing and that is always a good thing.  Hope you put those little demons to rest and be happy about what you have achieved so far! I think you're right Juanita...it's more anger at myself for letting my wieght get out of control and anger at the insurance company for not approving me sooner.  Thanks for your input.  Did you ever get my MP3's I sent you?  -Alyssa

Mine will take a while too as I have more too lose than several others but at least I AM LOSING IT.....so hang in there.  I remember you before the surgery and you've done great!

When I started out, I had 171 pounds to lose.  I still have 20 to go so I can't say I am exactly where you are but I understand the frustrations all the same.  I am 8 months out and have only lost five pounds in the last two months so yes, my loss has slowled dramatically.  Even though I am near goal, I have encountered those *****ached goal really quickly and yes, I'm somewhat ashamed to admit I was jealous.  But I think it's normal and we should all cut ourselves some slack.  I think we all compare ourselves to others no matter how successful we are...and that is the number one thing our supporters and counselors tell us not to do...but we all do it!  So don't feel so bad, your feelings are normal!

Pre-surgery weight: 316  Current weight: 122

I had 121 lbs to lose.  And I have lost it.  HOWEVER, let me just say I still have the green eyed monster.  Every month when I go to the luncheon, I see everyone and how they have changed, and I think "OH MY GOD LOOK HOW BEAUTIFUL THEY ARE. I WISH I WAS THAT PRETTY."   Its truly incredible to see the outer and inner changes that take place in each person, and I think "OH Please Lord please let me change too."  I feel like somehow God might leave me out!  So I dont think its just how much weight is being lost.  I think we all fear that it wont work on us somehow.  Those insecurities.... knocking on our door.  But thank goodness we have friends that remind us, you're not the only one who feels like this, its normal, and we're all in this together.

Love ya sis

I don't have any jealousy toward people that have had surgery and achieved their goals.  I question the need for surgery in many cases.  I haven't run into anyone that has, or had, as much weight to lose as I do (highest weight 598, final goal 220, 378 total loss), and I will not do WLS unless I absolutely have to.  I'm down 179 pounds and I still have more to lose than most people on these boards getting surgery have to lose total. That said, nobody else is walking in my shoes and I'm not walking in anybody else's.  Only you know how hard you have worked and what you have to do to succeed in the end. As far as slowing down is concerned, no question it has, and that is to be expected.
