The Fern and the Bamboo
The Fern & The Bamboo
The little difficulties in life are intended to make us better, not bitter.
One day I decided to quit.... I quit my job, my relationship, my spirituality. I wanted to quit my life. I went to the woods to have one last talk with God.
"God", I said. "Can you give me one good reason not to quit?"
His answer surprised me...
"Look around", He said. "Do you see the fern and the bamboo?"
"Yes", I replied.
"When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I took very good care of them. I gave them light. I gave them water. The fern quickly grew from the earth. Its brilliant green covered the floor. Yet nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo.
In the second year the Fern grew more vibrant and plentiful.
And again, nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo".
He said. "In the third year, there was stil l nothing from the bamboo seed.
But I would not quit.
In the fourth year, again, there was nothing from the bamboo seed.
But I would not quit.
He said. "Then in the fifth year a tiny sprout emerged from the earth.
Compared to the fern it was seemingly small and insignificant.
But just 6 months later the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall.
It had spent the five years growing roots. Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive. I would not give any of my creations a challenge it could not handle." He said to me.
"Did you know, my child, that all this time you have been struggling, you have actually been growing roots. I would not quit on the bamboo. I will never quit on you. Don't compare yourself to others."
He said. "The bamboo had a different purpose than the fern, yet, they both make the forest beautiful."
"Your time will come," God sai d to me. " You will rise high!"
"How high should I rise?" I asked.
"How high will the bamboo rise?" He asked in return.
"As high as it can?" I questioned.
"Yes." He said, "Give me glory by rising as high as you can."
I left the forest and brought back this story. I hope these words can help you see that God will never give up on you........
Never regret a day in your life.
Good days give you Happiness.
Bad days give you Experiences.
Both are essential to life.
Keep going...
Happiness keeps you Sweet,
Trials keep you Strong,
Sorrows keep you Human,
Failures keep you Humble,
Success keeps You Glowing,
But Only God keeps You Going!
; Have a great day! The Son is shining!!
This was sent to me recently and I wanted to share it with y'all. I have been to the level of suicide, have even tried, but always managed to get help before I died. Over the last 2 years, I have been thru so many trials and disappointments. I felt like giving up some many times. But God planted me in the form of the Bamboo. He's not finished with me, as I still need to grow more. Most of you know that I have leukemia. I found this out just 2 months before I saw Dr. Colquitt. He gave me a tool to use, to help me grow stronger, and healthier. There is no cure for my leukemia. But the seed has been planted so that one day a cure may be found.
I ask each of you to look inside yourself and question am I the Fern or the Bamboo. You may just find the strength and the wisdom that will help you to grow.
I love each of you is some way, if you are post-op, waiting for your surgery day, or are a newbie to this site and doing research on have the weightloss surgery. May God travel with you on this journey. He can give you the strength, and point you into the right direction when comes to findng a good surgeon. God is your tool, the surgeons help you to use that tool, and to live a healthier and stronger life.
Blessed be to all,

Kathy, Thank you so much for sharing this. I think at some point we all question why we are here and have doubts as to our existance. I hope you know if you ever need to talk or need a friend I am here for you. I will keep the following in mind and I hope you will as well.

Thank you Juanita. We all need these little inspirations to keep us focused. I may be as active right now, but I do check up on what's going on.
I'm still having to go to the Library to check my mail. Hopefully Bellsouth can get my DSL working by tomorrow. The apartment in Lebanon is still available, but I don't have the $600 I would need to move in.
Looks like I will be either living in my van, or a shelter. One other possibility is getting a loan against my van. I don't want to do that, but that would be the only other choice. The stress and tension at my son's house has become unbareable. At least living in my van, I can have some private time for me.
Keep this in your prayers. Love Kathy

Kathy you are very special . Thank you for being so inspiring to me.

Thank you Scott. They hit me more then you can imagine. More so right now as I either move into a shelter or live out of my van. I work each day to not just give up. It's a raging battle inside me. I have a lot to live for, but with the leukemia and the pain, I wonder and question why am I here to suffer like this, then I look at my baby grandson, my two sons, and I know I'm here for a reason. God's not finished with me yet.
Continue to use your new tool. Saw a plastic surgeon today and it looks like I will be getting my thighs done next month. Keep it in prayer. Love Kathy
