I am feeling more than a bit down in the dumps. I keep asking myself if I am chickening out. I do not think that is it .I am terribly worried the tool will not be enough.I hope Dr.Frye  and you friends can help me get past this.

Sorry you are feeling down.  I haven't really had doubts but I do worry that I ultimately will fail in getting to anywhere close to my ideal weight for my height.  However I know that if I were not to have surgery that would probably end up bed bound.  I don't have good control over food and while I might be able to get on track and work my hardest that I will continue to what I always do...lose 100lbs and then gain it all back.  I feel this tool will get me to a great place in 6months and that will be enough time to get use to learning to eat healthy again and establishing an exercise routine.  And seeing the pound drop off so fast will be extremely motivating.  I know this is a once in a life time opportunity and I will use as such.  I physically won't be able to eat as much as I once did or eat all that sugar and high fat stuff and that is what someone like me needs.. a tool to keep you on track or face the horrible consequences.  I am sure you will do awesome and with the support and help of the people on this board you will be successful.

Adrienne, I think it is normal to have have doubts and even question if your doing the right thing. I do this even now but take it a day at a time and focus on all the positive changes the surgery has brought to my life and keep the mind frame of why I wanted this surghery to begin with. To become healthier. I may never reach my "ideal" or gioal weight but I am not gonna let that stop me from trying. Even if I never reach my " magic" nmber in weight I know that I have achieved a lot and I know personally the changes I have noticed as far as life style and over all  the way I feel physically after surgery. Before I didn't have the energy to even get off the couch, now I exercise, eat well and feel so much better!

Hey Sweat Pea! I don't know if this will help you but I had my surgery two weeks ago and I feel fabulous!  I read a bunch of books right before my big day to occupy my mind...you know, mysteries that don't require any thinking like Mary Higgens Clark or Robin Cook (two of my favorites) or if you like gothic romance, Victoria Holt.  I also visited this board alot to get support.  You might also get a copy of Weight Loss Surgery For Dummies...it was a great resource for people who came to visit me in the hospital and wanted to understand what I had just been through.  Susan Maria Leach also has a wonderful book on her experience with WLS and she includes the best recipes I have found.  Spend your time educating yourself and you won't have time to be in the dumps!  You'll be too excited! I adore you and wish you only the best.  If you need someone to talk to about all this...just holler!  I'm here. Big supportive hug! Freddie

Dr Houston is my DR also.  You might be able to find a more caring doctor, I doubt it.  But not one so easy to look at.  He is very straight forward and gives you all the info up front,  Good and Bad.  So there are no suprises.  He is very detailed and wants the best for his patients.  He is a man of few words but will lighten up after the surgery.  You will do fine you are in good hands.  This worry you feel is normal, the fear that you can't reach you goal is too.  This is the great part!!!!  It is possible.  No doctor will do the surgery if he thinks his patient will be a failure.  Looks to bad on his record.  Just do everything you are told to do, even if it hurts.  Then this time next month you will be posting how wonderful you feel and the amount of weight you have lost.  Just hang in there.
Life is a string of problems, held together by moments of pure bliss.  Enjoy the moment it may be your BLISS!

Hi sweetie, you know I am always here for you in one way or the other.  I will call you weekly to see how you are doing.  I want You to feel better.  To be able to enjoy all that life has to offer you and to really see life for the first time as the new you pops out.  I love this new tool, and I take it seriously.  I may have trouble with the protein, but by having the surgery has really helped with my leukemia. I know you found out by cheating on your new tool what it will do to you.  So you can't fell.   I know you are going to be traveling a lot this month.  Just make sure you take "me time", each day as it's so important.  It allows you to regroup, relax, and make each day a special day.  Treat yourself once in a while but just going out and walk the mall, to buy yourself one new outfit.  Put your feet up and just kick back.  You will find your inner peace.  We're all here for you.  I know when we met that you will make it a success with your new tool.  I have the faith to know you can do this.  It's normal to feel a little blue.   This surgery is a  big shock to the system, but you know this and will get stronger for it.  Feel free to contact me anytime.  I am always here for you.  Love ya

Adrienne, It is perfectly normal to go through these fears.  You are undertaking a massive challenge, you are stronger than you think you are.  Just stay dedicated to your health and do what the doc says, following all guidelines and there is less chance you will have problems.  Knowing that the surgery is a tool and not a "quick fix" or "the easy way out" is the first step in a lifelong journey.  Also, coming here and posting this questions or any other ones, shows courage on your part as well.  Just remember that no matter what you are going through, someone here has already been there or will need you guidance once they get there. Hope this helps and I will keep you in my prayers. Darlene
