When it rains...

I have a list of prayer requests. First - the 5 year old son of my co-worker died Friday evening.  His funeral will be tomorrow in Hermitage. The parents are having an especially hard time because they also have a new baby less than 2 weeks old. Through it all though, they continue to praise God for His goodness, mercy and blessings. Second - my daughter is in surgery right now at Centennial.  I did stay with her and her hubby until they took her back. I had to leave and come to work because I knew I had things to cover here with my boss being out on vacation this week. (my boss NEEDED this vacation so I want him to know that I am here to handle things so he can relax) And, last but certainly not least. -- When I pulled onto campus this morning, I got a phone call from Melinda. She was admitted to the hospital last night and will be having her gallbladder removed at 2pm this afternoon. She is in room 3203 at Centennial Women's Hospital. She will be staying overnight following her surgery.

Susan, I'm so sorry to hear things aren't going well. You're in my prayers, as well as your co-worker, daughter,  and Melinda...Get well soon! What happened to the 5 year old? Was it sudden? How sad to lose a child.   -Alyssa

I just got a text message from my son-in-law. My daughter is out of surgery and all went well. The doctor did say she had a lot of adhesions but they were able to complete everything they went in for. Please pray with us that this surgery works and she is able to carry a baby.

I hate to hear about your co-workers son. That is tragic. My sympathies are with their family.  I am glad your daughter is doing well after surgery. I hope she is able to have a lot of success from it.  What is up with the gallbaldder surgery after RNY. I know that they tell you it is a possiblity but they should make it more clear that about 95% of people will have to have it. I think everyone on this board who has had RNY surgery had to have their gallbladder removed in the first year. I certainly knew it was a possiblity but was shocked when it happened to me and then to find out it happens to everyone. I wish they would warn people better about that. I hope Melinda has a speedy and healthy recovery.  Take care fo yourself too!

Actually, anyone who loses a lot of weight rapidly or who yo-yo diets is at high risk for developing gall stones. That is why most surgeons put their patients who still have a gallbladder on medication to try and prevent the formation of stones. I had my gallbladder removed about 14 years ago after years of yo-yo dieting caught up with me. Dr. Spaw explained that they are barred from removing a healthy gallbladder when they do WLS. If they get in there and find evidence of disease, they can remove it at the time of surgery but not if it's disease/stone free. Otherwise I think all surgeon's would just remove it as a standard part of the surgery to prevent a second surgery down the road.
