right now I am not  to happy with my self.  I started smoking again...... on big medicine I heard him say that smoking can cause a ulcer in our pouch.  Does anyone else smoke.  The nicatine gives me a boost and with what went down with my parents and my hubby doing a new run and not home every night. not be able to eat. I was really nervous so I started smoking again. Annrenee

Well I am afraid I will not be able to give much advice.  I just quit smoking almost 2 months ago.  I still miss it.  It's not the nicotine for me as much as it was the habit.  When I was bored I would smoke instead of eat.  I've gained quite a bit of weight during this last month since I quit and I've been waiting for approval so my nerves have been riding a rollercoaster.  I'm still a pre-op though, but I have recently been approved so the eating  out of boredom is slacking off.  Lately I've began reaching for water and sugarfree gum whenever I want a cigarette.  How long had you quit before??  ~Amber~

Hi Annrennee, I don't smoke but I will tell you this.  My daughter who is now 15 was diagnosed with an ulcer when she was 10.  Her pediatric gastro doctor asked if anyone smoked in the house.  I told him that no one in my house did but my ex-husband (her father) does.  He smokes 3 packs a day plus he uses wood heat.  The doctor told me to do everything possible to get him stop smoking around her and when she visits not to use the wood heater.  He told me that is what caused her to have an ulcer at such a younger age.  At first, my ex didn't believe me and my daughter had a hard time getting well.  I finally had to threaten to make his visit supervised and that is when he finally did as I ask.  It was not long after that she finally got over her ulcer.  Even now if we are somewhere were this is alot of smoke, she will get stomach aches.   I saw the same Big Medicine show so I believe what the doctor said about smoking causing ulcers.   Good Luck on getting approved!!  I have been approved for the Lap Band and will be seeing the doctor on July 24th.   Lisa

Hi Annerenee, Dr. Colquitt wouldn't do my surgery until I quit smoking.  Two months post-op I started back up because a friend was staying with me and wouldn't smoke outside.  I can't afford them now because of the new increase on the cigarette taxes.  It's not worth it.  I can't smoke in my new apartment either, if I want to see my grandsons.  Parents can't be around it either.  Plus I have  been having a lot of pain in my pancreates and main stomach.  I was hospitalized two weeks ago because my pancreates blood work was 201 and it's supposed to only be between 20-50. By the 3 day in the hospital it was down to 19 and dropped way to fast.  I have to stay on a soft food diet now.  I have to have another ct scan in Morristown in the morning.  I'll be in this area until next Friday where I will head back to Nashville.  I've gotten used to not smelling it on everything and all over my clothes.  Here at my friends home in Bean Station everything smells of smoke, and smoking is done in the home.  I keep my clothes out on the screened in porch so they won't smell like smoke when I go back to my sons home.   When I had to quit the first time, I used Dum Dum suckers and would lay them in a clean ashtray like i would a cigarette.  This helped me quit real quick.  Quit now while you can before it becomes harder.  I found out too that Dr. Colquitt isn't very friendly when you go in for your check-ups.   I'm now 18 months old as of last Monday. Love ya

I too am trying to quit smoking, but seems that so many stress triggers are keeping me down.  I am going to do it tho, I just have to learn a different way to deal with things.  I am trying cold turkey, which as any smoker knows is so hard to do.  Am thinking of trying some quit smoking aids to help me out.  Does anyone have any recommendations?  I want this surgery so bad, so this will be my motivation, because I know that I have to quit for it.  It is amazing, how something so addicting can be legal, isnt it.  I will keep you in my prayers and hope that you will me as well.  Good luck..
