I had seen some other members talking about eating wheat pretzels as little as a month out from surgery date. That sounds great to me but has anybody else had a problem with this or asked their dr. about it?

Yes I would have a problem with that. You should focus on food rich in protein and avoid foods high in carbohydrates. Protein is essential for important organ functions such as your heart.....carbohydrates aren't so essential and will definitely hinder your weight loss. Everyone's surgeon is different though.

It  does not sound like a good idea. You should have a plan from your surgeon. I know for me at one month out, I was only able to eat soft foods. You really do not want to pu**** with your new pouch. It could really irratate it and/or stretch it out. Also, more importantnly, as April mentioned, your focus should be on nutrition right now since your body is recouperating and adjusting. You need to stick with high protein foods and lots of water. You do not eat enough right now so you can not use up those "meals" and food on food with no nutritional value. I am a year out and going through a pretzel phase. I am eating pretzels as a snack - pratically everyday.  But I do not think I even tried chips or pretzels until I was at least 5 months out. You just really need to be careful about moving over to solid hard foods to qucikly and when you do, only do a little at a time and make sure it is high protein. Obviously you need to make the decision yourself since you know your body best but if you do try it, please try just a little to know how you will react to it. And if it does not sit right with you, just know that is for now and that you can try that in the future and it could be fine.

I agree with April and Misty, the main thing you need to focus on is protein and fluids.  The pretzels have basically no nutrional value, and until you are on the maintenance part of your program you should stay away from them.  You will do good to get in the essential things you need, and they could cause you to stall your loss.  IMHO. I also agree with the others.  You're in the soft food time frame and pretzles are a snack food.  I would say 90% of the surgeons will say no snacking.  Between your three meals is when you are to have your protein and water.  The weight will come off quicker by following your Dr.'s guidelines.  Talk with your Nutrionist.  That is the best advice we can give you.  Remember Carbs the bad ones makes starch and starch turns to sugar.  Best of luck.
