Today was housecleaning day!  After sleeping a little late (0900 am!) I started my day with AO and coffee with mice milk.  Later I had fage yogurt with ids cin/van and cin bliss.  This is my usual daily routine.  Then I got busy and didnt eat much.  For lunch I had some of the new Kays Naturals protein chips I got from barieatric eating.  They are chili nacho cheese flavored.  They are quite good.  I had about half a bag (.75 oz) with some cheese.  At about 4 pm, I made a half pnut butter and sf jelly sandwich.  Something else I have had before.   The only difference is the low carb bread I used was down to just heels and I used one of the heels.  Maybe because it is more compacted it has more carbs?  Got me? It was scary tho.  I was out Walmart and couldnt really communicate what I needed.  My brain was not really functioning well.  My cell phone rang (sheila) but I never could figure out what the noise was.  I was wandering around WalMart not knowing what I was supposed to do.  WHat is scary is that I knew what was going on but couldnt figure out what to do.  I just wanted to lay down and drink something.  I know weird.  I was sweating profusely (like I usually do).  I made it out to my car where I had some mints that were low sugar (not sf).  I sat there for about 15 minutes and started to feel much better.  I waited until I was sure before I drove (I promise).  I drove to Wendys and got a chicken sandwich and ate some of the chicken and 3 bites of bun.  This got me back to where I needed to be. I traveled home and layed on the couch and slept for 2 hours!  I can tell that my phone rang, thanks to caller ID, but I never "heard" them.  I am going to let my doc know Monday just so they can have a record of it.  I am still reviewing to see what I could have had even yesterday.  NO luck.  So just know that even at a year out, my pouch still rules me.  So I am going to go back to journaling every little thing and see if I can prevent it.  Another thing, is from now on I will always have a protein bullet in my purse.  These things are the best way to get me back on track when this happens. I posted this so others can learn from my experiences.  We need to pay attention to our bodies.  I thank God for my new tool and I am glad it still can teach me a thing or two!

Paula,         I hate that you had this happen to you, I am so afraid of dumping, I never want this to ever happen.  I am very careful, as you know, of what I put in my pouch, therefore reading this really scares me, because it does not appear that you did anything wrong.  Do you think you had a low blood sugar eposoide instead of dumping, because I have been there before and what you described is exactly what happens to me when this happens.  The confusion, sweating, not being able to function, wanting to lay down, and when you got a little sugar in you it helped, this means the mints could have had just enough sugar in them to raise your sugar until you went to Wendy's and ate something else.  I am not a nurse, but being diabetic since I was 16 going on 17, I have had many low blood sugar eposoides just like the one you described, I would always be wiped out afterwards and have a bad headache too.   Just my thoughts and I hate that this happened to you!!!

Love Ya Dear, Shelia

Paula, It sound to me more like a dropping of your blood sugar than it does dumping.  This happens to me about once a week , when it does mine blood sugar level hits about 48.  I break into sweat, shake like I am going through DTs and can't evn think enough to put a sentence together.  Why I think it is this instead of dumping is that when you ate something it got better.  When I dump there is no way I can put another bite in my mouth, heck I even try not to swallow spit. Hope you are feeling more of yourself, but think about this. Darlene

With me, low blood sugar and dumping happen together.  I also have the cramping and wanna die thing too.  That was when I got home.  But it starts out with a low blood sugar episode.  Dont be afraid Sheila.  Just be prepared.  I wasnt this time and that wont happen again.  I can feel it start to happen just like a low blood sugar thing.

Honey, I don't think you dumped, I think your blood sugar dropped! I can tell the difference between the two when if I eat something after getting symptoms, and I get worse - then I'm dumping. If I'm feeling better, my blood sugar dropped from not eating or not eating enough. Sorry you felt like crap though! Journaling will definitely help you pinpoint your problem areas.

Can the low blood sugar thing happen if you have never had issues with diabities?  I know almost nothing about diabities except that it runs in my family.  When I read about the dumping symptoms it sounds just horrid! From everything that I have read on it, what I"m getting is that it's like right before you have diarrhea the cramping, instense pain in the lower bowels and the feeling like you want to faint. Is that really what happens? Angie

Yep, that is how it feels.  But I always have a low blood sugar episode to start.  I had eaten the pbj about 30 min prior.  But then I had the cramping and pain and wanting to die stuff.  I ate to get my blood sugar up, but then the cramping worsened.  I did this before on real ice cream.  So I guess this is what dumping does to me.  But it starts off with low blood sugar episode.

Paula,  I hope you are feeling better. I had a episode like that about 15 yrs. ago. I went to pick up a pizza & when I got back in the car I could not remember how to drive. lol I knew where I was, why I was there & that I was going to go inside & call my hubby to come get me. I just didn't know what to do to drive. I was told or heard on TV (can't remember) there is something called brain freeze. There is nothing wrong just a unusual thing that can happen. It has never happened again. Of course I have not had WWL so, mine may not be what you experienced but it reminded me of that time. My kids still tease me about how I forgot how to drive. It was a weird & scarry moment.  Ellen
