Need help anyone know??????

I’m in the beginning stages, taking into consideration all that’s needed by my insurance company Cigna for WLS. Its states that I need to show at lease 6 months of continuous weight-ins.

I need a PCP in the  Mt. Juliet/Hermitage/Nashville Area, particularly a doctor’s office with an obese scale.

Where I’ve been going, the doctor office/Summit hospital scale only goes up to 400lbs, and they’re telling me not to worry about it.

Have you chosen a surgeon yet? I know that most of the bariatric clinics will do the 6 month dr. supervised diet program for insurance and they have the bari scales. I know that Baptist Metabolic Surgery Center and the center at Centennial both do the program & weigh ins.

Can you have the surgeon as your PCP???? That would be very sweet, but if I'm reading the Ins. requirements right the surgeon has to be approve by a PCP.

Do you mean that your insurance requires a referral to a surgeon by your PCP? If that is so, have your PCP refer you to the surgeon you want and do the 6 month supervised diet through that clinic. If your PCP can't weigh you, he can't meet the qualifications of the weigh ins so he needs to send you to someone who can. The way I understand it, most of us have had to have a letter of medical necessity from our PCP but the medically supervised diet can be done by the nutritionist at the surgeon's office. Have you attended any seminars yet?

Hello, I am from Dickson which is about an hour from Mt. Juliet....I am going through the Solutions program at Horizon Medical Center. You can read my hospital and surgeon review under my profile. Find a hospital that has a bariatric surgery program. Most of them are very good....research, research, research is key and stay in contact with this website.....the more support the better. Make sure and find the right place and right option for you. Good luck and keep us informed. Jancy In Waiting

Hi! I had Cigna. I did go through my PCP for my 6-month weigh-ins but I do not believe it was necessary that you use your PCP for the monthly weigh-ins. I believe you can go through any physician as long as your PCP writes your letter of medical necessity. So, if you have decided what hospital you want to have your surgery through, you can begin to go through them for your monthly check-ups. If you do not believe that is the case for you and you are not connected to much to your PCP, then go ahead and change PCP's. My PCP is not really one that I would recommend for people who want WLS. He is great and has been for me but he has very little knowledge of the procedure so I wouldn't recommend him to you. Maybe someone else on here will have a great PCP they will recommend to you. In any event, if you haven't found the hospital you want to go through, find one now. There are other tests and items you can be going through during these next six months. Cigna requires a nutritionist visit and a psych evaluation and you can do all that through the hospital of your choice. Plus every surgeon requires different tests (like a sleep test, EKG, gallbladder ultrasound, lots of blood work..etc). So if you haven't gone to the different hospital seminars and decided on a hospital, you may want to start that process to. I went through Vanderbilt and would recommend them to anybody but there are people on here from every hospital and I have not heard anything bad about any hospital. I am just partial to Vanderbilt because that is who I went through.  I hope this process goes by quickly for you and you get a quick approval. Good luck.

I also had my surgery at Vandy and my surgeon was the same as yours.  Isn't Dr. T great?  I too would recommend him as well as Vanderbilt Medical Center to anyone.  They treated me like a queen!

You are not allowed to have your pcp and surgeon as the same person.  Its a conflict of interest, since the surgeon will monetarily benefit from whatever the pcp recommends, and if they are one in the same,.... now it is possible that the surgeon can chart your progress, but why dont you go ahead and get a pcp to do your physical, recommendation, referral, etc.  Plus they are cheaper office visits.

My doctor is at an office in front of Summit Hospital, Christina Addison. They have 2 scales there, one goes to 350 and the other goes higher.  I  weight on the higher one, but not sure exactly what it goes up to.  Im a tad over the 350 but I am thinking it may be 500lbs that it goes up to.  They have a male doctor there too, his last name is Beckam.
