Okay I am usually the least whiny person ever.  But, I am starting to suffer here.  I am on pre-op diet - slim fast for breakfast, slim fast for lunch, smart-ones meal for dinner.  This is starting week two, which I know....yes, halfway through.  Of course, like everyone else, I have done diets before - but nothing this extreme.  I know that I am actually lucky that I get some form of substance a day.  But I find myself so weak and  just craving some form of protein or hot.  Just something heated.  Man, I miss hot. I actually haven't cheated much (I cheated on my birthday ) and I honestly don't miss food as much as I thought I would.  I have drank more water in the past week, I should just change my name to nemo at this point.  So, please, bandsters....people going through the same thing I am....or people who know exactly what I am talking about - please oh please oh please remind me - DRILL it to me, that it is completely worth it and so much more.  I gotta get healthier.

OK We will see what others say, but I would think, if you can have slim fast, you could have a regular protein shake.  You could get a sample of Chocolate Matrix, and make yourself a hot chocolate.  That would provide some protein for you, give you the heat you want in a drink, and also it should fill you up and not leave you hungry.  That's my suggestion, or you could try a Micellar milk, chocolate, and heat it up.  Or if you dont have access to this, you could go to walmart and get some EAS Advantage dutch chocolate drinks and heat one up.   Now make sure what everyone else can tell you... but I think if you are able to have slimfast, you can substitute it for a good strong protein shake or powder.  Hope this helps.

You can do it.  The reason I say is I did it last month before my surgery...and if I can you can I promise.  The toughest days was the "all clear" liquid days a couple days before... It's the funniest thing you go to surgery hungry and leave not the least bit hungry... a weird sensation to say the least.  Just know the Pre-op diet is temporary and it will truly help you adjust you to the new changes coming... You'll surprise yourself.  ;)

Hello Socks, First of all .... hang in there girl....this too will pass. I am a little confused because when I was pre-op I basically was eating all kinds of protein. Different Dr's and different programs have different plans however and I would never suggest not following your Dr's orders. You might want to make a phone call and ask if there is anything else you can have. A grilled chicken breast or a nice lean sirloin steak. Mostly I couldn't have carbs and no sugar. Your Dr and his staff are there for you so don't be afraid to talk to your NUT and of course we are here for you too. Like I said....it is a process and this part will pass....but get in the habit of communicating with your Dr. It is always best to ask your Dr. when you aren't sure..... Good Luck and I look forward to hearing how things go with you. Janice

Hi! Congrats on your upcoming surgery date. It will be here before you know it. Hang in there. For those hot cravings, I would suggest chicken broth. Yep, I know not exactly what you were thinking, but when I was going through the pre-op liquid diet, I lived on them when I wanted something hot. They are good heated up with some salt and they are actually fulfilling. Don't ask my why since it is just liquid. I did not like Beef broth but you can try that to. Hot Chocolate was a good idea too.

I second the chicken broth except I would suggest bouillon. Wyler's has some out now with different herbs and spices that are really good. I really enjoyed these in the first weeks after surgery too. Hang tough girl. You are almost there and it will be so worth it! Just take it one day at a time. You can do anything for one day and each day done brings you one day closer to your surgery date.
