The ASBS Foundation will present the fifth annual nationwide Walk From Obesity - a fundraising event designed to reduce disability, death and discrimination of people who are obese by educating the public and healthcare professionals about effective treatments. This nationwide non-competitive walking event will bring together participants of all ages from throughout their communities. Walkers raise money by asking friends, family and co-workers to sponsor them. In addition to walker contributions, funds are raised through sponsorship, matching gifts, corporate contributions and other fund-raising activities. Tennessee ranks 6th in the nation for adult obesity and 3rd for childhood obesity. The Nashville Walk from Obesity will be held on Saturday, September 29th at 10 AM at Hall of Fame park. This year, the Nashville site will have a specific focus on addressing the issue of childhood obesity. We invite you and your family, friends, church groups, clubs, organizations, co-workers and children to be a part of this worthy event. Registration for the 2007 Nashville Walk from Obesity will be available at http://www.walkfromobesity.com/.  I hope everyone will mark their calendars now and plan on being there this year. Last year was my first and I had a great time! Susan

There is one in Memphis. Go to the link in my original post. As the date gets closer, you will be able to sign up and get more information about the Memphis walk. You can always contact the national office and find out who to contact in the Memphis area for more information now.

What a great idea April! We could walk together and then go somewhere downtown for lunch. That's what I love about our group, everyone is so smart!!!!!

Thats a great Idea April!   I would love to do that and if possible, all of us walk together. Do you know if there is there a minimum you have to raise in order to walk? I have never done it before but you can count me in!

There is no minimum. There is an entrance fee that gets you a "walk" t-shirt and other freebies. You can actually walk without paying the entrance fee. You just don't get the t-shirt or goodie bag, etc.
