BIG MEDICINE ON TLC
Did anyone watch it? I did; it was interesting. I was in awe of the young girl, can't remember her name. She looked awesome. And I thought Penelope was going to have a tough time of it. Too into guys and partying. I hope she doesn't set herself up for failure. Can't wait to see what happens with the man (dang, can't remember his name either, Allen maybe). He started out over 800 and was down to 680 or so pre-op. Anyway, just wanted to see what others thought of it who saw it. ~~Elena

Hi Elena!
Hope you are doing well. DH and I watched it with our 9 y/o son. We thought the same thing about Penelope. Son was very interested because my surgery is coming up next week. Wanted to know what they were going to do to me. He was O.****il the bleeder! Allan is going to have a hard time of it do to his mother enabling him to eat all that food. We thought that the "process" for Penelope was to fast and easy. Not enough time spent on insurance etc. Looking forward to next week. I went on TLC's website and found the message board. I like how the young Dr. responded to some of the questions that had been posted.
Have a good day!

Penelope was approval took one year. At least that was a comment I heard her make on the episode. I'm just sorta concerned about her motivation and following "rules". She was shown two or three times "partying" in a bar and she made the comment about being happy she was comfortably going out to bars with her friends. Now, Who knows what she was drinking, but her conduct was suspect. I just hope she doesn't replace food with sex or alcohol.
Allan also has a very long journey ahead of him. He's got so much to loose and I agree that his major hurdle will be his mother. She's "loving him to death". I hope that him and his family get counselling on how to be more supportive in a healthy manner.
I think it's going to be a good program. It will get information out to everyone, not just those thinking about having it done. I just hope that it continues to have an honest look at the whole process.
Anyway, that's another two cents from me!!!

The girl's name was Lauren and yes, she looked so good after her ps. Did you see the double pooches on her belly...the upper one is what is driving me nuts so I felt much better seeing that I am not the only one that has a "double belly". I call it my belly butt since it kind of looks like a butt...I am worried too about Alan...his mom is totally giving him all he wants and he enjoys the food... I hope he will be receiving counseling. As for Penelope, I was happy to hear her say that she was not happy about the surgery on her first visit...it took me a long time to feel happy and now I am so glad I did it. But she does worry me too with her partying lifestyle. I also wondered why her and her bf broke up and if it was due to her weight loss. I was sort of shocked to hear her talk about how much better sex is now that she is in the high 200's...I was 282 at surgery date and sex was non-existent...she is one confident lady!
Overall, I think the show was presented in a factual yet caring manner and I am really looking forward to seeing how they all do!
