I Cheated!

I have cheated every day since I started this semi liquid diet! Most days it has just been 1 hot hard boiled egg instead of the protein shake at night, but today it was the worst! I ate way too much, grazing as it was. I still ate less than I normally would, but I didn't follow the guidelines of the diet and I feel real GUILTY. The DH is very supportive, did not ridicule me or anything like that, but still. I was very bored and upset over two not so good job interviews today. The son is at my parents playing with his cousin so I have nothing to do. Actually there is plenty for me to do, but I just haven't done it. The depression and the wait are nerve racking. I'm not nervous about surgery, I know this is the right thing for me to do, but... I'm bored! That said I'll go lie down and watch some t.v. - no snack foods as I have taken all of my night time meds and will be alseep soon. Thanks for letting me vent. Beth

Beth I am sorry you are having a hard time.....I didnt have to do what you are doing so I can not say one way or the other but I do know befor surgery I was hungry all the time.  So i am sure I would be cheaten to isnt there anything the doc can do or stop that diet or anything. why are you on this liquid diet this far in advance?(is it for the fatty liver to help get it out of the way if it is maybe that will help you stay on it to know if you dont get that fatty liver out of the way he can not do the surgery or you may have complications so if that is the case maybe just maybe that will help you stay on the diet..... does that help?  I sure hope so. Beth, oh Beth.  I understand completely where you are coming from.  I would do the same thing in your shoes.  I mean, good grief, I can't diet in the first place....that's why I'm getting surgery.......HELLOOOOO!!  And besides, you're probably not doing as bad as you think you are.  I guess the important thing is to make sure you have your system cleaned out for the surgery at least.  That should only take a couple of days before surgery.  Good luck and try not to feel guilty.  By the way, my surgery is the 18th. Again, good luck!! Lisa

Hang in there girl. You only have 5 days to go and I'm sure you can do it! Try not to beat yourself up too much. You said you still ate less than you normally would so that's something. Just begin the new day with fresh determination to stick to the liquid diet. Keep your hands busy, get out of the house if possible, take a walk when the munchie**** You can do this!!

Beth, I'm sorry you are havinga rough go at it hon. It is understandable though. It is very hard to restrict yourself when you have a normal size stomach and nothing to occupy the time. Keep trying and don't give up!! Juanita

Well...benn there and done that. It is good that you recognize why you turned to food. Soon your tool will help you gain the self confidence to kick the emotional eating habit. Food is fuel not comfort...it never really feels the void...we just keep tryiing to...try getting into a new craft hobby or something..talk a walk, soak in the tub..but stay out of the kitchen and don't do what gets you started....if I sit in front of the TV too much...I want a snack...so now I get out sculpey clay and make something....HUGGS Beth B. in Chattanooga

Hi Beth. Been there - done that and do not have the T-shirt to prove it. Haha. I had to do an 8 day liquid diet before my surgery. To put it bluntly-  It really SUCKED. You woudl have thought if we could go 8 days without eating food, we would not need this surgery. Do not beat your self up over it. Today is a new day with a new start. Just keep at it. But just know that you have worked so hard to get this surgery and do not want to do anything to mess it up. The pre-op liquid diet is really for your good and for a much easier surgery. If your liver is not reduced enough, they may have to do your surgery as open instead of lap and the recovery period is a lot harder. Just keep telling yourself that you can do this - especially if it means having this surgery and losing weight and being much more healthier. It is just another stepping stone to the big picture. Soon you will be on the losing side and all of that will be behind you.

Thank you all for your wonderful replies.  I was feeling VERY guilty yesterday, and feel much better today, and I have not cheated.   I went to the nut. this a.m. and weighed in.  I had set a goal of 370 for next Monday when I actually go under the knife and I have reached that goal.  WOOHOO now I have no place to go but down.  I will see you all on the losers side next week. {{{{{hugs}}}}} Beth

I'm sorry you're having such a hard time Beth. I really can't say that I know how you feel because I only had to do two days of liquids pre-op for Dr. Houston. But I know one thing for certain... this is a great place for venting! :-) Good luck with the next few weeks!
