Shake Help Please
Good Morning All,
Happy Post Memorial Day......
I am experiencing these all of a sudden problems with getting my shakes down. I am five weeks out and now the foods I can eat are not appealing to me at all and getting my shakes down is harder every day. Has anyone else experience this? Can you pitch me some advice to get past it?
Thanks and have a great day!!!
Janice
Is it harder to get them down because it hurts or because you don't like the taste/smell/texture?
If it is because of taste, etc., you may just need some of our recipes on how to "doctor" your protein to make it more palatable. My tastes changed at about 5 weeks and I could no longer stand one of the protein powders I had been using up to that point.
Let us know if you need some recipe help.

There isn't pain.....I just can't stand the taste, smell and texture.....Please help in any way you can....
Maybe there are some soups or something I can add. The thought of any fish, cottage cheese or eggs is just not appealing at all..........I hope this passes soon....
Thanks as always for all your support and suggestions.

When I was on pureed, I liked the Campbell's Chunky soups pureed. They tasted like "adult" food and had a little bit of texture to them. I got tired of all of the sweet protein drinks very quickly.
Some of the other things I liked were:
refried beans, cheese & a bit of enchilada sauce heated together - Taco Bell's Pintos & Cheese
Wendy's chili - pureed to break up the beans & meat into smaller bits
chicken salad - pureed to make the chunks smaller
For your protein shakes, perhaps you need to try a different brand. What are you using now?

Hi Janice! I know exactly what you mean (most of us probably do). I hated food after surgery - especially in your stage when the same old food just was not tolerable anymore. The key is variety, variety, variety. Easier said than done - I know! Susan had some great ideas. I loved the pintos and cheese from Taco Bell. They are high and protein and more importantly - hot food! I wanted hot food. Also, you can try Chicken salad. I made my own version at home using the chicken in the can and blended it with mustard or low fat mayo and spices and cheese. Sometimes just for change (although it has no nutritional value) I ate mashed potatos (like from KFC or homeade) or even a a few bites of baked potato. Not something you want to do often but when you need that variety, it works. Also, if you haven't yet, try different flavors of Yogurt for breakfast and different flavors or oatmeal (low sugar kinds). Susan also mentioned Chili. That is a good idea too. I personally liked Sonics Chili with cheese. But that is al ittle chuncky and I am not sure how thick of food you are eating right now. You have to be carefuly with to many liquid soups (like ckn noodle) because that leaves your pouch too fast. I know my surgeon wanted less liquid types of food for the first little while.
For your shakes, have you checked out the baratriceating.com website. They have a lot of shake combinations and receipes.
I hope you find some things that work well for you.
