1 Week Office Visit
I am trying to be motivated and encouraged. I went to see Dr, Dyer today for my 1 week office visit. I had lost 10 lbs. (yaaaay!) I felt I should have lost more than that by now considering I was on the liquid diet since Monday, April 30th (with a couple of "bad" days when I nibbled on food). I have heard of others talk about losing 20-30 lbs one week out. (I am trying to encourage myself here, but I am failing miserably). Also, I feel as if I am pregnant. My stomach actually appears to be larger than it was prior to surgery (which was Monday, May 14th). It looks as if it is a knot (or bump or hump...or something) through my blouses. IS THIS NORMAL?!?!?! Is it swelling from the surgery?! The port is located there as well! I feel bloated! I am now transitioning to pureed food for a week and then solid food. I will return to the doctor Monday, June 11 and I pray for a better report for you then.
Can any bandsters shed light on this for me (or any of your for that matter)?!?!
Keeping My Head Up,
Sharon
Hi Sharon! 10 Pounds is wonderful! You should be really proud of that. It is 10 pounds closer to your goal and the weight loss is just starting. The first week is rough after surgery. Your body is adjusting and a lot of people actually lose nothing the first week from being on IV fluids and their body holding everything it can because of the changes it is going through. So losing 10 pounds is great. I am not sure about the knot. It could be that you are bloated now that you are transitioning over to pureed foods so you will feel that way. But if there is a knot around your port and you are concerned about it, you should definatley let your Dr know. Did he see it when you went to him?
Keep up the great work and let us know how you are doing,
Misty
Hi Sharon,
10 lbs in a week is great - especially with LapBand. Bandsters don't lose the drastic amoutn of weight like the RNYers. Stay positive. Continue doing what you need to do - Protein first, Exercise, and Lots of water!
You could very well be swollen from surgery. That is why most docs require patients to wait a few weeks before they have their first fill...because of all the swelling. It could also be gas that is causing you to feel bloated. Try walking to help move the gas out. If you feel it necessary to call Dr. Dyer, go right on ahead. Those docs over there are great and won't make you feel like an inconvenience!
Hope that helps!
April
Ladies, thanks for the insight. I really appreciate your care & concern. I am doing great and, at least, lighter than I was when I began.
Yes, Dr. Dyer did see my stomach, clipped the stitches on both ends and pulled off the strips on the surgical site where the port is...
but I just did not think it was able to empathize due to seeing so many patients and not necessarily remembering how my stomach looked. (i.e. If you've seen one you've seen them all...yada yada yada)
I know I am losing weight and the place where I REALLY want to lose it is the place where it seems to be bigger--not smaller. But, you are exactly right, I am still swollen in that particular area from the surgical procedure (as he even stated), so I should not be expecting any overnite miracles.
I am better and thanks for listening, again, ladies. I do want to have positive energy for those who are on here, but, dang, I was going through last evening.
Blessings to each of you and continue to be the motivational individuals who are.
Eternally Gratefu!!!
