Hello everyone, has been a bit once again. have been crazy with my daughter and her feeding tube difficulities and my legs have been pretty bad. Last time I had explained that I had written my employer about covering WLS on the insurance policy. And I went for it and asked to be paid for the week vacation time I have(or am suppose to have) like all the other employee's get paid for. Well low and behold, they now have informed me that even though I have been there over 8 years, and that there is no one else to watch my special needs daughter(because of her sever self abuse issues) ( we have tried for 13 years to find someone, and in TN because of her feeding tube it has to be a RN or LPN) They want to discontinue services for my daughter, because they feel I am asking for things they can not provide. So within the very near future, I will have no insurance, no job, and no way to support myself and my daughter. I can't work outside my home, because my daughter requires 24/7 care, and with no one willing to provide that care but me, thus no outside job. How a company can do this is just beyond my thought process, and I have been crying and just so upset. Trying to keep a positive attitude is about impossible right now. I just have no clue what to do now. I guess I should have just never asked them for anything. Whats even funnier is my last employee eval, gave me a glowing report, said I was doing a very good job. weird huh. sorry to be so down everyone. But I have been fighting for 21 years every single day for my special needs daughter, got away from an abusive husband, and just do not have much left within to fight with. *hugs* alicem

Alice, I'm really at a loss as what to say. Just know you have my thoughts and prayers. I can not imagine anyone denying the right to care for your child. It is uncalled for. I am here if you need a shoulder or someone to talk to. Take care !! {{Huggs))

If you are working for a legit company with benefits they CAN NOT fire you for use of benefits. They can of course fire you for anything else. And in Tennessee you would have to prove that they fired you because of you benefit use. I am not an attorney nor have I stayed at a Holiday Inn. Do your research at the US Dept of Labor and good luck.

Alice, I just read this and I'm so sorry about your issues. Is there an advocate or some agency that works with your daughter to help in getting these services? Probably so, right? Just a thought. I hope everything is worked out in the end. -Alyssa

RUN!!! Do Not Walk, to your local labor board immediately and file a complaint. You should do this because #1, they may be able to help you nip this in the bud, #2 so you will have documentation of your complaint. Next look for a labor atty that will take your case on a contingency. You may have a case. I am not an atty but have some employment experience and in today's equality climate you may have a real shot at making a case for yourself. Remember to keep documentation of every thing you can. You will be in our prayers. Bill R
