Peanuts
the only time i get them is in the little 50 cent packs at kroger when i am starving, shopping after work... when pre-op i would be buying chips or a candy bar... i figure that they are a better choice. but they aren't something that i normal have in the kitchen just because of how many i can eat... and how many calories they have!
Hi Sheila, I began eating nuts at three months. I wanted to add some extra omegas to my diet and I kept reading about how beneficial a small amount was to our health. I only eat one ounce at a time and limit them to three servings a week. I use them to up my calories if I am on an especially low cal day. For instance, if I eat tilapia three meals a day, (yes, sometimes I only want that soft texture the whole day), at 21 grams of protein a pop, I have 63 grams of protein in for the day but only 270 calories so I will enjoy an ounce of nuts. I had my cholesterol checked last week and in just the short time I have been eating nuts, my hdl went up and the ldl went down. I have to chew them really well of course, but they have not given me any problems whatsoever. Almonds and walnuts are the best health wise...if you eat brazil nuts limit them to just 2 nuts a day because they are super high in selenium and very easy to overdose yourself on selenium if you eat too many.
Hope this helps!
