Congrats Tywanna, I am so glad to hear of your quick approval, as I will finish up my 6 month Dr. supporvised diet next Thursday. I will be sending Dr. Spaws office my 6 mos. diet sheets on Friday & hopping Dawn will get all my stuff sent in quickly soooo.......... I can get an anwser from Cigna as quick as you did. Tywanna, Hi. I would love to know how thing go with Dr. McDowell. I also have Cigna through the State of Tennessee and am in my 3rd month of doc monitored diet. Did you have to do this? Dr. McDowell is also supposed to be my surgeon so I am verrry interested. Congratulations!!!! I have heard so many nightmares concerning insurance that I am terrified to file and they won't even start until I finish my 6 months of diet. I would love to hear from you.

Beverly, I have Cigna through the State of Tennessee and I had Dr. Spaw. They turned my insurance in at 4 months and I was denied because I only had 4 months of Dr. supervised diet documentation, even though I had a ton of co-morbidities, 5 physician letters all in support of me having WLS and a 100 pounds to loose and I was denied. I went on Dec 19, 2006 for my sixth month of Dr. supervised diet and I turned it into Dawn and we expected Cigna to take 30 days to approve since it was now an appeal, but it was approved in less than 24 hours, by 10:00 am the next day I had been approved. I had surgery on Jan 29, 2007 and I am so glad that it went so well for me. I hope that it goes as equally well for you too!!! Shelia

Shelia, Thanks so much you have eased my mind so much. I have been terrified that they were just going to deny me just because. But we have several people at work who have had the surgery and have had no problems with insurance so my hopes are beginning to come back up. Now I just have to wait at the next 4 months. Dawn has requested a copy of the sheets each month of which I am taking her a copy. I do have one doctor she should probably go ahead and try to get my medical records from because I hear he may be a problem he was my pcp for the past 14 years. I change because I could not get his support in having surgery. But all of my medical problems are going to be documented with him and I know that my new doc requested them a month ago and have not received them yet.

If you have trouble getting them, you can always call them and tell them you are going to pick them up if they do not send them by a certain time, because they have not right to keep your records, they belong to you, not the doctor. He is required to keep a copy, but your records are your records, and I believe that this is addressed in the HIPPA laws as well.
