Hi Annrenee! 11 days wow it will be here before you know it! I didn;t have any type of bowel prep only liquid diet. Wishing you all the best on your surgery and hoping you have a speedy recovery!

Annrenee, I did not have to do a bowel prep for the RNY surgery I had. I did have to do a liquid only diet for 10 days prior to surgery and that does clean you out. I have had to bowel preps for other things in the past (like a colonoscopy) and I have always used the Citrate. It is horrrible! So, I do empathize with you. If you have a stomach that just can not handle these types of products, you may want to consider enemas. Try doing a liquid diet for a few days before surgery and also using a couple of enemas a day for a couple of days before surgery. That should not effect your stomach as much (except some cramping). It may not clean you out like the citrate does but with a liquid only diet, it should do the trick and your surgeon will never have to know how you got cleaned out! Good luck on finding something that works for you. Keep us updated on your progress. Misty

RNY and DS are two different types of WLS. As I understand it you are using Dr. Colquitt, is that right? He does not do the DS (Duodenal Switch).

Susan, As I understood from him and the nutrtionist that i am planning on having the rny with the duodenal switch where he brings up the part of the bowel to connect to the pouch that is why it will be very imporant that I take the vitamines and get the protine. but I could be wrong so I have a call in to see what exactly it is called and what he will be doing. thanks for your input.Annrenee

Susan, Thankyou for helping to clear this up I thought that bring up the small bowel tothe pouch was called the duodenal switch. I did talk to someone and got the dummie book out and i was mixing the 2 surgeries because of the small bowel being brought to the pouch. Thankyou so much for bringing that to my attention. he is a good Dr. just not very talkitive lol I am at so much more of a ease you all are great. a little secret, I am disabled and it is mental I do get things mixed up i blame it on something we call fibro fog I have fibromyalgia and a whole other host of illnesses. so again thankyou so much for clearing this up.
