Hi. I'm currently in the insurance approval process for the lap band. I'm going through Baptist Hospital in Nashville. Does anyone reccommend a certain surgeon from the group there? Also, i am in the second month of a MD supervised weight loss attempt for insurance approval. Does anyone know if they will deny you if you lose too much or too little weight during the 6 month period? I'm terrified of getting denied.

I did not have the Lap, I had the RNY, but I would recommend Dr. Spaw. He is a wonderful , kind, patient, and caring doctor. He just seems to have it all talent and great bedside manner. I have written about him in my blog if you would like to read it. But, I highly recommend Dr. Spaw!! Shelia

Ditto to your question. I am also in my 2nd month of doctor monitored weight loss. My surgeon is Dr. McDowell? Does anyone know anything about him? It looks like we may be looking at the same time for a surgery date.

I never met Mcdowell. I have heard great things about him. Good luck finding one!

I have to second the recommendation for Dr. Spaw! I felt comfortable with him the first time I met him. He is also the most experienced in the office AND he LOVES the lapband. My hubby also felt less anxious about my surgery once he met Dr. Spaw. Most insurance companies will go by your weight before you started the 6 month supervised diet. Unless they specify that you have to lose a certain percentage of your starting weight, they will not penalize you for losing too little weight. Of course, the more you can lose pre-op, the easier your surgery will go and the less you will have to lose after surgery.

Thank you all so much for your advice. I had not done my homework 3 yrs ago and was denied by insurance. I am now in the process of getting approved again. I know this is the right choice and welcome any advice i can get. I thought Dr. Spaw would be best also, since he has the most experience.
