Hey Deb...congrats on your date! I didn't have to lose any weight before surgery but my doc said it wouldn't hurt...my liquid diet did the trick. I put myself on one week prior to surgery and dropped at least ten pounds. You have nearly a month so I have no doubt you can do it...of course go completey sugar free. Drop all carbs but veggies and drink lots of water...it will come off. Good luck!

Hi & congrats Deb, I had to loose 30 lbs. before turning my paperwork in. I did the liquid diet & lost 10 lbs. in 3 to 4 days. It worked but I was starved. Ellen

Hi Deb! Congrats on finally getting a date. it will be here before you know it. I had the RNY surgery so we were required to do the liquid diet for 10 days pre surgery. I would suggest doing that too. Even though you are not required, ti will help you lose weight and you may not have to do it for 10 days though. Basically you have to drink 6 carnation instant breakfast drinks (mixed with milk) a day. You can also have as much of anything that is less consistacy than tomato juice. So like Chicken Broth, Sugar free jello (and sneak in some sugar free pudding), SF Popsicles, tomato Juice and all of the drinks you want (sugar free of course). I know I lost at least 10-15 pounds. It is really hard but it will get you what you need. I hope you have a speedy recovery. Let us know your progress. Misty

Congrats on your date. I also had to do a liquid diet about 8 days prior to surgery and lost 10 lbs. All I drank was Carnation Sugar Free Instant Breakfast with skim milk about 6 a day for 8 days. Very hard at first but then you get used to it. Good Luck!!

Congrats on your date! I didn't have to lose anything pre-op and only had to do 1 day of clear liquids the day before surgery. But, I do know that these other ladies know what they are talking about. I have seen some of them lose 20 pounds or more on their pre-op liquid diets. Good luck, I know you can do it! Susan

Hey, ladies, thanks for the input!! Today is a new day and I am not as overwhelmed as I was yesterday. My surgeion is George Woodman and I'm in Memphis. Last night as i pondered all of this, I had some real doubts about this whole thing, but today seems brighter and It seems more possible. I am also a reader of yahoo bandsters and read the posts there. I dont contribute as much because the sheer volume of posts is insane and hard to keep up with. Also there are alot of people who are having problems there. I feel like sticking my head in the sand when it comes to that topic. So I have about a month to lose 15 and I have started, but not on liquids yet. I will do low fat and low carbs for a while then go to liquids the last week or so....or maybe even sooner if the pounds dont come off fast enuf. That is sort of my game plan. My friend Mary was banded in Dec and she has been an inspiration to me and now i have found you guys too. I think I am actually "grieving" for the future loss of my old friend food. I never realized until yesterday how important it was in my life and how all the (mis)information we are given about how to lose weight actually may serve to make us gain weight. My doc is severely anti fat. I asked him about carbs and he said some carbs are fine. Fat made me fat. He provided me with some other scenarios that made total sense. I was one of those people who justified what they ate as carb controlled and it was pure BS. I stuck my head in the sand here too. Well, I have some walking to do....... Ill be back later....................................Deb

I think you have a good plan. You can do it! low fat and low carb...mean high protein and lots of low sugar veggie...get used to it.....it works. Yes, if you need a boost that last week on all liquid will probably do it. get as healthy as you can before surgery, you deserve it! Beth B. in TN

You can do it on a liquid diet. Call them and ask if they have one. Otherwise, I am sure some of us can dig out the liquid diet rules from our closets.
