I passed out. Exhausted/Sick- what is wrong with me?
I try not to complain too much but this is another "Whoa is me" post. Thanks for letting me vent.
Ok so here it goes. I mentioned that I haven't been feeling good. I went to the Dr a couple of weeks ago and my blood test came back that I was malnutrition and malabsorbed or whatever (a lot of abnormal results). I was put on a vitamin regiment of a prescribed Vitamin D (50,000 IU) once a week and foltrin (Iron and Vitamin B12) daily. I am also now taking my multi vitamin daily and calcium. I have been doing this for two weeks and I just do not seem to be getting better but getting worse. I wish I knew how long this slump was going to last. I know I was at fault for not taking my vitamins like I was supposed to. I wonder also if I have an ulcer? I have been nauseous when eating again. And I am just EXHAUSTED. I can not do anything because I do not have the energy. I also have been having problems with being nauseous, headaches and being lightheaded and even some kidney problems and occasionally back/side pain. On Saturday, I passed out from low blood sugar. That was really really scary for me. I have passed out before but it had been years. I just felt horrible. I do not know why and how long it will take for this vitamin regime to kick in or if there is something else going on with me. I do not regret for one minute having this surgery but I really need to feel OK. I don't want to feel this way anymore. I do not know if I need to take my test results to my PCP to see if he has any suggestions or bother my surgeons office again (but I am worried they will say "give it time"). I know it can not be normal to feel this crappy/sick that you only have energy to come home from work and collapse in bed and now I am nauseous when I eat and don't feel like eating at all (But I have been forcing myself).
I am over 9 months out from surgery. Why is this happening now? Has anyone else been through something similar this far out from surgery? How would I know if I had an ulcer (I had one 6 months ago but I do not remember this being the symptoms - except the nausea). Any advice? Thanks!
Misty

Hi Misty, I do understand how you are feeling, I experience it every day but then I am on chemo. Have the Dr.'s checked you for an ulcer this time? I do the B-12 shot, once a week, there for a while it was twice a week. It stays in your system longer then the pill form. I would also have them check for a stricture, they can do that when they do the scope to see what is going on with your pouch. Having low sugar levels will make you weak, light headed, and as you found out, you faint. Plus if the levels get too low, you can go into a diabetic coma. I would let your surgeon and PCP know what all is going on. Tell them you want some tests done. Oh, are you taking any medications that are NSAIDS, aspirin base? You can't have any of that as it will cause errosions, ulcers, and can really damage your pouch. Get it checked. I will keep you in my prayers. Love ya, Kathy
Call your surgeon and see what he says about your current condition. He may very well tell you that it will take XX number of weeks for the new vitamin regimen to kick in. But, then again, he may want to see you to re-evaluate what's going on. You never know unless you call.
Are you getting your protein?
The foltrin can cause nausea. You need to make sure you take it with something to eat and see if that helps the nausea. I've taken the foltrin since I had surgery and if I take it on an empty stomach I get a little queasy.
I know when my vitamin D gets low it takes several weeks before I start to feel the effects of the 50,000 unit dose. And it was like that before I had surgery too. It just takes time to rebuild the vitamin D when it gets low.
Hope you get to feeling better sweetie.
I started getting dizzy on Sunday and feeling like I was going to pass out. I had a doctor's appt. with my PCP scheduled for this morning so I just waited. She drew about 6 vials of blood to check all of my vitamin levels, etc. I am sure mine are out of whack too because I have not been taking my vitamins like I should be either. However, she thought that the dizziness may be caused from some fluid that I had in my left ear (ear infection???). I noticed this last Thursday, my ear would sort of pop occasionally when I would start talking. With all of the great East TN pollen that is flying around I am sure it could be related to allergies/ear infection but now I am wondering if it is from a vitamin deficiency. She should call tomorrow with the results if they are abnormal. Needless to say, I have started taking my vitamins and hope that the levels are okay.........I hope you feel better soon!!
Hi Susan! I am doing ok. I just really do not feel good at all. I know it is not normal. I emailed my Drs office this morning to let them know. I wonder if I need a B12 shot? He gave me Foltrin 3 weeks ago and that includes B12 and iron but from what I hear, the shot works faster and better. I have never had one before. I am staill waiting to hear back from the Dr. I do not know what is wrong but I am nauseaus too and that is badddd. But I am hanging in there! I hope all is well with you. talk to you later.
