Dr. H. put me on 3 blended meals and 2 shakes/day plus my 64 oz of fluids because I was behind in my protein. My scales haven't moved since last Thurs when I started this. I'm hoping I can go just to my blende meals today but we'll see. What is going on? Is my body rebelling. My good friend Darlene says my body is in shock! Is my body holding on to what it can??? I'd appreciate any thoughts! Janie

Your body is definitely in shock! You just had major surgery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you are truly worried about your intake, go to fitday.com and track your intake. You are going to see that you are taking in so few calories that your body may very well be trying to hold onto whatever it can right now. Keep following your doctor's orders and, I promise you, you are going to see those scales take a giant nosedive. Everyone worries that they are going to be the one person this surgery does not work for. It will work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are all living proof that it works!!!!!!!!!! Hang in there girl!

Definitely... you just had major surgery... you've lost quite a bit already in such a short time. I remember my first month out. I lost something like 18lbs in the first week after surgery on April 11th.... and nothing until May 5th and the scale dropped 5lbs. Don't worry about it... your body can't hold on to the weight forever not with you only consuming less than 600 calories per day.

You recently had surgery. Your body will go through a "shock" period. Especially since you are now on blended foods. Don't stress to much, it will start dropping agian and faster than you realize. Just keep up with the Dr's orders. It will work. And stop checking the scale every day (easier said than done - i know!) HAHAHA. I am sure you are losing inches if you were to check your measurements. Just work on getting in all of the fluid and protein and your vitamins - very important. It sounds like you are doing good on blended foods. That is great. I am glad you are having a good recovery. Misty

Thanks again for the encouragement. It is so hard to get off of those scales! The first week and a half it's like the pounds just melted off! Then all of a sudden it's STOPPED! It's scary because I know I'm having to take in more calories than what is recommended because of the extra protein drinks. But I'm following MD orders! I'm gonna try fitday.com. I think it'll be good motivation for me! Joe, I'm glad you're doing well! It makes me feel better to know that you're going through the same thing. I just didn't want to be doing something wrong! Suppose I'm a little paranoid! Janie

"more calories than what is recommended because of the extra protein drinks." Just how many calories are in your protein drinks? At 2 weeks out I was doing good to eat 2 tablespoons of pureed food at one sitting. My protein drinks were about 4 - 6 oz and mixed very thin. I don't see how you could be getting too many calories at this point. How much are you able to eat? Are you planning on coming to the protein party on the 14th? I promise there will be some good information there.

EAS 110 calories/drink 17 gms protein 4 gms carbs This is what Dr. H. put me on because I was not able to get my protein drinks in the first week and half. I'm comfortably getting my 3 oz protein blended protein in without a problem. He recommended the 3 blended meals plus the two protein drinks/ day till I was feeling better and got my protein intake up. Janie

Girl, there is no way you are getting too many calories! You are right on track. You did not have this surgery to never eat again. Your body has to have fuel. Just keep following Dr. H's directions and the scale monster will give it up and leave.

Hi Janie, I've started seeing the same thing. After such a dramatic loss in my first week and a half, I've only lost about 3 pounds over the last week. I believe everyone who is saying that the body goes into shock is right. It's still frustrating, tho. Fitday is a great resource. I've been using it to track everything I eat and drink and looking back I see that I am hitting my food and exercies goals, but my body has obviously kicked into "starvation mode." Stick with it and I'm sure we'll both make it over this "bump in the road." Joe
