Too much protein powder?

I have not lost a pound in over 2 months. My son works out a lot and is in college to be a strength and fitness coach and he says i am getting too many calories from my protein drink and that is slowing my weight loss. I upped my protein because my hair is really thinning and I thought this would help, but that is when my weight loss stopped. I started having 2 scoops of whey protein and 20 ounces of fat free soy milk every morning, that is 455 calories. I have lost over 100 pounds and have gone from a 24 to a 12 and i am so happy but I want to reach my goal of 170 before my anniversary. I am trying not to stress, but I am really depressed. One week I had gained 3 pounds, but then I lost it the next week. I have been jogging 1.5 miles 5 nights a week and I noticed that my butt is getting smaller, but the scale is NOT moving an I really dont need my butt to get too much smaller. It kills me to sit for church service and movies and I realized my car seat has a spring sticking out. Any suggestions?

It sounds like your protein powder may be too high in calories. That coupled with 20 ounces of soy milk, even fat free, is just too many calories for one meal. That is probably more protein than your body can absorb in one meal too. Try reducing your soy milk to no more than 6 or 8 ounces. Check your protein powder for calories, carbs and protein. The ones I use have between 90 and 100 calories, 1 - 3 grams of carb and 19 - 22 grams of protein per scoop. I mix mine with water and/or sugar free Da Vinci syrup (and doctor it with other stuff to change it up too). We are having a protein party/intervention on April 14th as our regular monthly get together. We would love to have you come if you can. We will share protein ideas and mix up some drinks for folks to try. More info will be posted the week leading up to that Saturday. You have still done an amazing job with your weight loss so far. You've come a long way baby!!

I agree with Susan... sounds like a lot of calories... but, how much protein is in your soy milk and protein? Not sure how far out you are, but there is a time period where some stall/plateau. Also the exercise is great, but it may be working on your muscles good and it just appears on the scales that you are not losing when you are losing fat/gaining muscle. Maybe, and this is a suggestion of something I do, you could take your measurements and then wait a month and redo. You will see that you lose inches. good luck

Hi Marie. Stalls are normal. I had my surgery in June and I stalled a little over a month ago. It is completely normal. It will start happening agian for you. I did start using fitday.com to track all of the food and drink I am consuming everyday. That does help me keep up with calories and fat and carbs. It does sound like you are consuming a lot of calories with your protein drink. Are you using that as a meal substitute (like you are skipping breakfast) or are you using that protein shake in addition to your three meals a day? I would think if you are using it as a substitute it would be fine. Of course you need to get in your protein so I would not stop taking it. Yes, you should come to the protein party and see if there is something else that would work just as good for you with less calories. In any event, you have lost a lot of weight and are doing fantastic. The stall is normal. Keep up the great work. Misty
