Okay ladies, as gross as this might be I need to ask...... I'm scheduled for surgery next Monday, and according to the calender that is also when I should start my period. Should I be concerned? I go see Dr. Rutledge tomorrow afternoon and I'm not sure if I should say anything to him or not.

no... i started mine the day before my surgery. They just tell you to NOT wear a tampon and will more than likely give you some huge maxi pads. You'll probably wear one during surgery. Also, you'll probably bleed a lot more than normal b/c of all the blood thinners they give you. You will need to make sure your nurses and doc knows though...just to cover all the bases. Good luck with your surgery!! I know you must be a myraid of emotions right now

Oh yuck! I hadn't even thought about the blood thinners....... my period was a lot worse this past month after coming off the pill. I guess something else wonderful to look forward to on top of surgery and fighting the allergy/sinus crud (I started an antibotic today, and yes I called and asked permission first).

Hi Kristin. Your surgery is coming up fast. . Kym is right. That is really common. A lot of women start right before their surgery because of the stress bringing it on. Do not worry about that. Trust me- they have seen it all. . By the way, why did you stop the pill? Are you on another form of BC? My surgeon would not do surgery unless I was on BC so I was just curious if that was not a requirement of your surgeon. Misty

Kristen, this is actually a very common occurrence, even when people aren't scheduled, they sometimes start due to stress. They are prepared for this to happen so don't be worried. I was due to start but didn't for a month after surgery. Good luck!

Kristen Mcburnett, Call your doctor ask if you can take your next month's BC and skip the week without. That way you bypass your peroid and can go into your surgery with no worries. Or call your doctor and ask if you can be put on the Nuva Ring. I had mine in during surgery and did not start my period at all. It was only after my surgery a week after did I take mine out. It stops all monthly flows until you remove it. Works real well. But after I took mine out I was on my peroid for 6 1/2 weeks because of the hormones going through me. And The RIng is safe and easy and your doctor can work around it too. Try and call your doctor. Your friend, Tina Cannon

Tina, The surgeon is the one who took me off my BC. He wanted me off of it for a full month before surgery. He said that sometimes BC pills aid in forming blood clots.

I did a lot of research so I already knew in advance that I had to get off the pill a month before surgery... I thought my surgery was going to be August, so I stopped in July... I didnt have surgery until October... but my periods still kept coming, the first time it was regular in years.
