Need some encouragement!!
Hello everyone!! I don't post a lot to the boards but I need some encouragement. I've got two weeks until our next support group. My husband and I both had RNY in November 06. He is down 106 pounds and I'm down 68. I have not lost any weight for about two weeks. It just keeps fluxuating. I have exercised last week including trying water aerobics and walking almost two miles one day. Still nothing!!! I think I'm still losing inches because my clothes feel better (I can get into a size 14 now!!!). Has anyone else had this issue???? How long does it last??? I'm trying not to get discouraged but my husband's lost two pounds this week and that doesn't help!!!
Yes, lots of people go through these stalls... your body just needs time to readjust to the situation. You've increased your exercise and your body is like "hey, whats going on here?? I haven't ever done this" so your body is going to need to adjust to the exercise and your body will come to actaully expect it too. A lot of times, especially when you start a exercise program, you will tend to build muscle (from fat) Muscle weighs more than fat, but it burns calories faster than fat. This causes decreases in clothing size even though you may weigh the same. Start taking your measurements... when the scale isn't moving, I'll guarantee you're losing inches
It may last days weeks...and even months (for those who are further out). You can never tell. I didn't lose anything for the entire month of february...but this month alone, I've lost 15lbs. I haven't had a loss like that since the earlier stages of the surgery. It certainly takes patience. Keep in mind, the weight didn't pile up over night so it won't melt off over night either
At least this is what I keep telling myself! LOL But just keep doing what you're doing....watch your calories, focus on protein, drink your water, vitamins, protein, exercise, and more protein
Those scales will start moving again
Oh, men lose so much differently than women... it can be frustrating, but we're just made differently

Becky, I didnt scroll down to read anyone else's responses... just had a few going through my head... first of all, welcome to the Loser's Bench! Keep in mind that men do lose faster... but this is by no means a competition... you are both two different individuals... your weight is carried in different locations, etc. You are doing fabulous! Keep on your path of "righteousness" (that's a good one... seems like we are "sinners" if we dont stay on the straight & narrow gastric bypass diet!!) But anyway, as I was saying before I got so full of myself...
Another thing is that you are exercising and you are losing inches but building muscle which makes it appear that you are not losing because the scale isn't budging... You may try this... take your measurements, write them all down, and the next time you get discouraged, give it 3 or 4 weeks, then re-measure. This always helps me. You can really tell the difference then. I like to add up all the inches I have lost...
Best of luck to you! And don't keep lurking in the shadows! Come on out and chat with us for awhile!
Hi Becky, I had rny on December 11. I hit a stall in February and didn't lose a single pound in an entire month. I lost inches though and went down in sizes so, while I too was frustrated, I wasn't extremely worried. I was excited when it recently started going down again and have already lost another ten pounds in March. So hang in there, this is normal!
