Hi. Does anyone have any really good sugar free recipes they would care to share with me. I've tried using the splenda in measurements just like sugar and it turned out so bitter. I tried to make chocolate oatmeal cookies (doo doo cookies) they were so bitter plus they wouldn't get hard. So I've learned the hard way that you can't just replace the sugar with splenda and expect everything to turn out fine. That is why I would love to know some good recipes that maybe you have tried or made yourself. Thanks, Melissa

That's right... there are a lot of things that you can't use splenda as a sugar replacement... but you can reduce the sugar content by doing 1/2 sugar, 1/2 splenda. There are other sugar substitues that you can use for baking, or so I've heard. Also, www.splenda.com has a lot of splenda tried recipes with user reviews.

Melissa, There is a store close to my house that I just recently visited and it is wonderful. The owner is also great, it is called " It's All Sugar Free" if you would like e-mail me in my personal box and I will provide you with the information. She has a lot of products that you can use to cook with and has lots of ideas. Also has a lot of already prepared items already available. I am sure that if you live too far away that she would be willing to ship to you as well. She is a very wonderful lady!! Shelia

Hi Melizza, It's All Free is also the website. WWW.Itsallfree.com. I found when making a pitcher of lemonade or decafe tea, to add just a little more splenda and it equals out the problem of the bitter taste. I have been out now almost 15 months, doesn't seem like it, but because I am on chemo for leukemia, my cooking certain foods, are harder. Some foods just the smell will make me sick, and then there are others that I know I shouldn't have that doesn't make me sick. It's a trial and error time period for you. Be sure to write it all down when you find a recipe and share it with us. Love Kathy

Also under Forums is a board for cooking and baking for the bariatrics. I've gotten several from their board. Just can't use them yet as everything I own is in a shed while I am still looking for a place in Nashville to live. Off to go see three places now. I wish you the best. Love Kathy

There's a sugar I got but haven't tried yet... its Nature's Crystals. Bought it from the "It's All Sugar Free" store in Antioch this weekend... but i hear its good... and can be baked/cooked/heated to a higher temp than splenda

One of the guys in my clinic support group made sugar free peanut brittle with the Nature's Crystals at Christmas. I could not tell the difference between it and regular peanut brittle. It was amazing! I have a bag of it but I haven't used it yet. I plan on trying it in banana bread this weekend.

I have been using XW8, or X weight, sweetener from bariatriceating.com. I have bought Nature's Crystals but I haven't used it yet. I love the xw8, I can't tell it's not sugar but it does give some people gas. I have the Splenda cookbook but most of the recipes are still too high in carbs for me to use just yet so I haven't really gone through it really thoroughly. Kathy just posted a really good lemonade recipe that I tried and it is going with me to Gulfport for the drive.
