Does that date ring a bell? It's the date of our protein party... and I actually am writing to ask you guys a huge favor. Mike and I have a friend that is obese. She is so beautiful and really struggling with being lonely and not accepted... she feels in her words, "three times as big as I am". So I invited her to our protein party. She hasn't considered gastric bypass. She cannot afford gastric bypass. I don't think she even has insurance. So why did I invite her? I feel that she would benefit greatly from being around you, my friends, because we have all been where she is... some of us may still even feel these things. But I believe that she will feel love and acceptance by people who understand. I hope you guys don't mind...

Oh no, not at all Melinda! I think it is a wonderful idea. I remember too often how I thought and felt I was the fattest person alive. When I went to my first seminar is when I realized that I'm not alone. But, how will she feel about this? I mean... I know from my own personal experience how I felt around people who lost weight and were looking great. The mother of the guy I dated in college had gastric (2002? I think) but as I saw her so "easily" lose weight, I felt so jealous and outraged. Outraged because she never followed the rules and jumped through all these hoops to get Tenncare to pay for it which at that time was a great feat...but moreso I felt jealous and greatly envied her. It reminded me of how fat I was and how much of a failure I thought I was. Does that make sense? My next door neighbor is wanting to have WLS. She is super morbidly obese. Her husband isn't very supportive of her decision. He thinks she can lose it just by watching what she eats and exercises...but we all know that it is practically impossible for people of our size to exercise because of 1) our size and 2) our medical conditions at that size. But anyways, she needs someone there to help her through this process. I went with her on the 20th to Houston's seminar. She thought he was funny. I told her...wait until you get one-on-one with him lol At any rate, would it be alright if I invite her too? I would certainly hate to impose. I don't know if she will be able to even make it. She works Saturdays.. she is a hair dresser at Macy's in Rivergate (did wonders for my hair!) But she needs all the advice and help she can get. She doesn't think she can do this alone, but with a great group like the people here on this board... she doesn't have to do this alone

I'm in Brazil...18 days out from DS surgery and doing GREAT!! I've already lost 24 pounds in 16 days (haven't weighed in two days). I'm leaving tomorrow, and I can't wait to be home...I miss Nashville!!! I have a question though: what is a protein party? Amanda

We are going to get together and exchange ideas & methods for getting more protein into our diet. Especially for the newer post-ops who may be struggling. Most of us had RNY and we have a couple of lap-band patients too. As a DSer, you would probably not need the info but you are welcome to join us for the fellowship. We have recently added a clothing exchange to our monthly meeting. You might benefit from that.

Susan, "As a DSer, you would probably not need the info..." OH THAT COULDN'T BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH....LOL. DS patients have to get in 80-100 g of protein every day...90, according to my surgeon. So, finding new ways to add in protein would be VERY beneficial to me...and any other newly post-op DSers. Therefore, I am very interested in attending this protein party, if it wouldn't add to mu*****onvenience. May I have the specifics? Also, when will there be another lunch date scheduled for us WLS patients from the area? I missed the two before my surgery, but now I'm very interested in meeting other patients and meeting new friends. Thanks in advance, Amanda Biggs

I think protein party makes it sound like we are going to have a salesperson there to sell protein shakes, powders, etc. I think we should call it a protein intervention... for all those who need some help! Anyway, I know of three of my favorite drinks that I would like ot make. I can't wait to taste every else's favorites... Paula makes a good mocha frappuccino. Mine doesn't turn out as good as hers...
