Speaking of Protein
not really. If you were elderly or had poor kidney function (which would have disqualified you for the surgery) then you would have to limit the protein to under 100g.
I've had kidney stones the last two months and have gotten conflicting reports as to whether this is caused by a high protein diet. One person says no and another says yes. I just don't want to keep them lol.
I hope this helps,
janie
Yeowch, Janie! I've been there, done that and outgrew the t-shirt on the kidney stones so I certainly feel for you.
Have they had you capture any of the stones so they could be analyzed to see exactly what kind you are producing? My doctor also has me do annual 24 hour urine collections because they found that my urine is not acid enough. (I know, TMI)
Anyway, my urologist did recommend adding pure lemon juice to my water as a way of increasing the acidity of the urine. It has to be real lemon juice, not a lemon flavored beverage. Unfortunately, this did not bring my acid level up enough so I am on medication to prevent, or reduce, stone formation.
Also, even slight dehydration will contribute to stone formation in those of us prone to them. So, drink up!
Hope you feel better.
